Coronavirus, what we need to know

Not entirely accurate about Katrina there. First Florida declared emergency, then the next day Louisiana declared emergency, then Louisiana requested a declaration from the Fed, after that the Fed stepped in. Then the Fed declared a state of emergency and started sending help. Couple days after that the Pres started declaring disaster. A governor has to declare emergency and request the Pres send in FEMA before FEMA can go in. Katrina was a terrible mess, but we have gotten better in the last 15 years.

I not so sure we have, Porta Rico was another major disaster when Maria hit the Island. But that's another story.

I wouldn't bet that they hit their time given for this, but even if they get them done in 2 weeks, it'd be an amazing feat.

latest updates on the Wohan 2019-nCoV

28 Jan 2020

1) Germany has reported the first case of Human to Human infection anywhere except in China. This occurred because a Chinese National visited a friend in Germany. The Chinese Nation had been in the vicinity of Wohan approximately 5 days before she left for Germany. After boarding a plane to return to China approximately 4 days later the individual started to feel ill from a Flu like Infection. The individual immediately notified the personnel working on the Airplane and their friend in Germany. Upon landing in China the individual tested positive for the Novel Virus. The German National also tested positive for the Virus and personnel these individuals they came in contact with including those on the Plane are being tested for the Virus and they are being kept under observation for signs of infection.

2) In the United States there are 26 states where people are under investigation for possible infection from this Novel Virus. To date there are still only 5 confirmed infections in the country, however, there are still 73 individuals under observation for possible infection from this Virus. As of today the CDC is recommending that all nonessential travel to any location in China is enforced. Last as of this morning there were still 1000 Americans stranded in the city of Wohan. This afternoon a single Plane provided by the State Department is scheduled to land and pickup American Citizens for evacuation. However, how they choose who goes and who stays until the next fight is scheduled isn't clear.

3) Here us a link that covers Infection Control by the CDC.

Latest updates on the Wohan Coronavirus 2019-nCoV

29 Jan 2020

1)  Well it appears that the State Department has started the process of evacuating Americans from the Chinese city of Wohan. Today 201 or the 1000+ Americans were evacuated are currently located at March Airforce Base in Southern California. At this time they are going through medical testing to see if anyone is infected, it is possible that they may have to remain under quarantine for the time period of the Viruses incubation period. So far no plans have been published concerning the fate of the other 800+ Americans still stranded in the city of Wohan

2). Currently there are 92 people under investigation of possible infection in the United States located in 36 states Nation wide.

Currently there are 130 in the U.K. Who have been tested for the current Coronavirus outbreak in China. British nationals who are currently waiting evacuation in the city of Wuhan China are going be evacuated on 30 Jan 2020. Currently the biggest issue being considered is how to get them from the British Embassy to the Airport since the entire city us locked down.

Here is a current link to a updated Global Map that identifies the Countries where the 2019-nCoV has been identified due to infections.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/locations-confirmed-cases.html

3) As of today China has reported 132+ deaths due to this Virus, and World Wide there are now more the 6000 individual infections being reported. It can't be emphasize enough that this outbreak is expanding at a very very worry some rate, and there is no end in sight.

4). Apparently we have come full circle concerning where the Human / Bat contact that started the Virus occurred. It is being reported now that the Wohan outdoor market was selling Bats as a food source. This is now becoming a major issue for researchers concerning how the Virus broke the Bat / Human barrier. Bats throughout China are used as a source of food, they are made into Soup, they are also both cooked and fried. It is possible that this is how patient zero was infected, but at this Time this us only a Theory, so there will be more to follow.

Peace, more information to follow.

Yes the Flu is the deadliest virus in Earth presently, however, its effects are predictable. Currently the Spread and infection rate of the Wuhan Coronavirus is catching up with the Flu, eventhough technically the Flu is a form of the Coronavirus. The biggest problem with the Wuhan Virus outbreak is there is no end to it in sight, and if it mutates which these Virus's are known to do there is no telling how bad it could become or if it will become much less serious.

As of today the WHO in considering place this outbreak on its most serious list, from there it can only be reported as a Pandemic. Hopefully this will nit happen, and the rate of infections will gradually decrease, but that can not occur until China gets the Virus within their boarders under control, and unfortunately it appears at this time they are not in control.

Peace

Yeah... I'm not sure they can force cure concrete any faster than normal without weakening it.  Especially in the kind of weather they have now.  The real question is if this outbreak isn't any worse than the government has let on, why the massive rush to build a hospital?  Something just doesn't add up.

The stock market will probably be as good a barometer as anything, of where this is heading.

Yes I agree with you, I would bet that Biomedical Stock is going to go through the roof, while many other stocks are going to crash due to a complete shut down of trade with China.

They were reasonably sure that it began in chickens and crossed over to humans.  It then made two trips around the world - many millions in Europe got sick and recovered and when that virus mutated again, it hit the world like a runaway train.  It killed young, strong and otherwise healthy people and that was unusual for any other influenza which mostly took away the aged and immune compromised :(

Those were some terrible times, let's hope this Virus doesn't Mutate into something like that.

That does seem an escalation, I would say the next couple of weeks will tell the story on this.

As of 30 Jan 2020 the World Health Organization has upgraded the 2019-nCoV to a World Health Emergency and renamed the infection 2019-nCoV Acute Respriatory Disease. In other words this Virus has become a Pandemic and there is no end in sight.

So far our health officials in the US have a good handle on controlling this Virus. However, there are no guarantees that things couldn't change, very quickly. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

The weekend's coming up so here's some jolly reading material, it's Episode 1 of 'Survivors' (1975) and is a step-by-step account of what happens after a butterfingered Chinese lab worker drops a flask of deadly germs-
