US embassy in Iraq struck by rocket

DarkHunter

Recommended Posts

Earlier today rockets were fired at the US embassy in Iraq, atleast 5 were fired and at least one directly hit the embassy.  The rocket seems to of hit the restaurant/canteen part of the embassy.  Originally it was reported no casualties but now rumors of atleast 5.  Apparently American helicopters have landed at the embassy with intense American aircraft activity over Baghdad.

Also unconfirmed reports of intense gun fire heard from an airbase inside Iraq

If it isn't answered, this is only the beginning.  Time to send those Mahdi Army types a very intense message.

There are rumors that aircraft jets are taking off from Kuwait but that hasnt been confirmed yet

Seems the jets taking off has been confirmed, I'm expecting to hear of targets being bombed in the next hour or two

About 20 minutes ago America informed the Iraqi government that they will be reacting militarily to the strikes on the embassy.

Unconfirmed accounts that Kataib Hezbollah is taking responsibility, apparently there is a video floating around but they havent said anything on their own channels yet

Here's a link where they are reporting a casualty, it says that only one person was wounded, but it doesn't say if they were American or Iraqi.

What I want is a strong...non-proportional American response.  The kind of response that says: We consider an attack on any US Embassy an act of war...and such aggression will be answered with an act of war!

And then send a Cruise Missile through Kohmeini's bedroom window.

Don't play with a rattlesnake.  Cut it's head off!  Then bury the head.

What will Trump do?

We know what this guy would do if he were President...talk the issue to death.

And who are you going after this time General Armchair?

Oh, Iran. You do know that Iran only has so much control over these groups, right?

You did kill their leader as well as soleimani. Every chance this is their revenge, not Iran's.

You'd start a war with Iran for nothing.

So as an encore to the spectacularly stupid assassination of an enemy, your plan is to assassinate a neutral party?

What's next month? Air strike on Pence? Poison in McConnell's candy? Mysterious shaving accident for Kushner?

Seriously though, you do realise that Sadr has nothing to do with the Iranian-aligned groups?

Since your assassination, the protests have shifted from anti-iran to anti-US. Sadr has withdrawn his support for the protests today. What does that tell you?

That's funny back in August in the Iran has seized a British tanker thread you were arguing that the PMFs were Iranian.

One of your apparently former statements on the PMFs.

"Local 'Iraqi' (in name only), troops that receive all their funding from Iran, equipped by Iran, who swear loyalty to the supreme leader of Iran (not the Iraqi PM), many of whom belong to groups which far predate ISIS and have been killing western soldiers since 2003?

Yes, that would be them.

The PMF is supposed to be something like 100,000 strong. At least half of those will jump to do Iran's bidding (or just what they guess it might be). "

There are actually quite a few post in that thread where you argued that the PMFs were essentially Iranian military and did everything they ordered.  Funny how your opinion seems to change based on what ever best backs your anti-American stance.

I agree you don't start a war for nothing, but in this case there is plenty to start a war for. Your comment that Iran doesn't have control of the Groups that are using Terror as a Weapon isn't true or factual. Iran has very strong control over over these groups, if these groups don't follow Irans orders, the weapons they use to commit terrorist acts would not be supplied, now whether you admit it or not that's a great deal of control. While I really don't want to see another war, I don't see how it can be avoided so long as Iranian backed groups continue to attack US Soldiers and US Embassies.

The PMF are split. There are Iranian proxies, Iranian-aligned groups and Nationalist groups (not to mention a smattering of Sunni, Christian and others).

Before you assassinated their leader, I'd say anything KH, AAH or Badr did can be seen as Iran. Less so the likes of SAK, KSS, HAN etc. Now though, they've got their own score to settle regardless of Iran's goals.

They have access to the Iraqi arsenal and god knows how much stockpiled. Probably not so much need for the odd katyusha here and there.

Add that Iran can't afford to pay them anymore and you've got much less control than previously.

Do you have proof they have access to the Iraqi Arsenal? If so please provide it or this is nothing but your opinion. As far as Iran not being able to pay them anymore, that's not realistic Iran still has ways to pay them, in fact the weapons they supply can be seen as payment alone.

Once again in the thread I referenced earlier you argued that they were essentially a monolithic block that always obeyed Iran but you already proved that you are not consistent with your arguments so going on further with that will be pointless.

Ultimately though whether they take orders from Iran or not they are now legitimate targets for retaliation due to the strike on the embassy.

You're not familiar with simplification are you?

Exactly. They are a legitimate target.

Iran is not.

It was not simplification, the posts are there for everyone to read and clearly shows how you flip your arguments for whatever will most benefit your anti-American and Iran apologetic views.

As the PMUs are legitimate targets then you should have no problems if the Iranian officers embedded within the PMUs to supply, train, and coordinate their activities end up being targeted and killed.

If they are collateral, that's the way it is. Targeted is different.
