Does anyone else feel as patronized by this stupid official government cartoon?

Coronavirus: What you need to know graphic featuring three key points: wash your hands for 20 seconds; use a tissue for coughs; avoid touching your face

"Bin it, bag it, sorted!"

It might be obvious to some but if this type of information was not circulated the government would be pilloried for not doing it and it is worth knowing. ;)

There is still nothing we can do, no cure, no vaccine, less than 400 confirmed cases in (UK) a country of 65million. 6 deaths. Why are people panicking?

Meanwhile, while Would-Be Dictator Johnson and his absurd government are losing their heads and running around in panic because they have to be seen to be Doing More to Combat the Virus, I heard today that more than 30 people - 38 in fact - have been killed on these "smart motorways" that the Department for Transport (DafT) is so keen on; this is where they remove the hard shoulder to make another lane for traffic, which means that if you break or have a puncture or whatever then you have no choice but to stop right in the line of traffic. Is the Government going to hold a meeting of the Top Secret Cobra Emergency Committee to consider ways to combat the danger of Smart Motorways?

ROFL... Dictator Johnson... it's got a kind of ring to it, doesn't it ?

As for "smart motorways"... that is 38 people killed over five years. That is less than the number of people killed on normal motorways... by a large margin.

https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/cars/the-safety-issues-around-the-highways-explained-after-38-deaths-in-five-years-1377934

Overall, between 2014 and 2018 there were 503 deaths on UK motorways. The Panorama investigation found that 38 of these were on smart motorways, amounting to seven per cent of fatalities while smart motorways now account for around 17 per cent of the motorway network.

Well, a lovely ironic story reported on the BBC thismorning.

Our health minister, Nadine Dorries, who is in charge of the UK coronavirus response, has been diagnosed with Covid-19 :P

You couldn't make this stuff up.

And it gets better... the day before she was diagnosed, she attended a Cabinet meeting, including with Dictator Johnson TM. So who KNOWS who she may have inadvertently infected ?.

Italy has reached 10,149 infections with 631 dead.

Only 1004 people have so far recovered meaning that Italians have a death rate of 39%. Thats crazy bad, in the territory of the Black Death - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/

Its a worrying number of deaths. But lack of testing is probably skewing the death rates. I would work in the other direction and suggest that if 631 people have died then the infection number is more like 600,000?

I dont think most people would report it if they just had a sniffle or minor cold.

So I agree that it could be a lot more.

Rishi Sunak has unveiled a £30bn package to help the economy get through the coronavirus outbreak.

He is abolishing business rates for many firms in England, extending sick pay and boosting NHS funding. The Bank of England has announced an emergency cut in interest rates from 0.75% to 0.25% in response to the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

Up to 70% of Germany could become infected - Merkel

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-51835856

"Around 60% to 70% of Germany is likely to be infected because the virus is new, there is no vaccine or treatment, and the population has no immunity, said Merkel repeating comments made ahead of a coalition government meeting on Tuesday."

There where around 5000 people visiting their GP's last year with flu-like symptoms. I would imagine at least 10 times this number where infected, but didn't bother to go to the doctors.

I could EASILY imagine Covid-19 exceeding this figure by an order of magnitude in the UK.

Someone isn't good at logical reasoning. The number of cases is not:

Deaths + Survivals

That neglects those who have coronavirus that are yet to die or recover. With those who have died or recovered the death rate at close yesterday was 39% and there has been a dramatic escalation of deaths in Italy today. So at close today it might well reach 45%.

The population will develop some form of immunity to this virus long before a vaccine becomes available. - and then it will only be offered to those most vulnerable.

No way is there the capacity to firstly manufacture and administer any vaccine on the scale required to 65 million people. never mind globally.

By the time one is developed there will be millions dead.;

That is without draconian lockdowns.

unfortunately Viruses don't adhere, respect or acknowledge 'lockdowns'

the Virus is now global. its in the general population. there is no stopping it by lock downs or washing hands. but Govts have to be seen to act and tells us something.

We've been blowing our noses in tissues, washing our hands since forever and its hasn't stopped the common cold / Flu.

just like the flu there is no cure, the only answer is development of natural immunity until a vaccine becomes available. but even then, - like all vaccines state on the label in the small print. "active immunisation to reduce mortality and clinical signs due to infection" they don't prevent infection as you have to contract it for the vaccine to work.

Also worth remembering there is no capacity to process all the test samples submitted for cornavirus. even the "quick test kits" used here in Liverpool take 30 minutes. there is 450,000 population here. it would take years and years to run the tests for everyone.  If you now include the entire country 65 million. - its not possible to even run 500,000 tests. as it would take close to a decade to run all the tests.

faced with reality we should just carry on as normal. its clear the survival rate for Covid-19 is 99%+ if we take into account those who have contracted the virus with no symptoms or been tested. so these people will now have developed some form of immunity.

We've all had the Flu in our lifetime and here long enough to tell the tale. it'll be the same with Coronavirus. those who are susceptible to the Flu because of underlying health problems are the same group susceptible to Coronavirus.

65million people in the UK. 25,000 people tested. 460 cases tested positive. 6 deaths.

True, and on the bright side austerity has ended at last.

I think as I get most colds when I am dehydrated (they start with a sore throat from it) telling us to make sure we drink plenty of fluids would be more effective than using tissues and washing hands. Or at least getting older people and those with weak immune systems to do it might help. In the mean time has anybody figured out yet what the run on toilet rolls is about?

I find I get colds / flu when im stressed and have lack of sleep. our greatest weapon in the fight against disease is sleep. due to work/lifestyle Humans are the only species in the History of time who actively prevent themselves from going to sleep when tired. every other living creature when tired simply goes a sleep.

"Nearly 200 people in Italy have died in 24 hours as cases of coronavirus in the country continue to rise.

"There have been 827 deaths in Italy and the number of cases increased by more than 2,000, from 10,149 to 12,462, official figures showed."

"Countries including Sweden, Belgium, Bulgaria and Kuwait have also reported their first fatalities following positive tests for COVID-19"

https://iwradio.co.uk/2020/03/11/coronavirus-italy-sees-nearly-200-deaths-in-24-hours-as-outbreak-continues/

Two more deaths in Britain. Infections rise to 460.

"One was an older patient who was being treated at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust for a number of serious underlying health conditions.

"The second patient in their 70s at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust was being treated for underlying health conditions."

"More than 460 people in Britain have become infected with flu-like Covid-19 since the outbreak began."

2 hours to go and its at 44% https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus-dev/country/italy/ lol

Wrong again, there is no 44% death rate. The 44% value is related to "closed cases" and not related to the number of infected people.
