• School closures were a fiasco, closed but not closed and only vague directions to schools, subsequently overwritten by answers to questions on TV;

Boris appears to be following recommendations from the medics and scientific community, I don't see how you could do much else with a medical emergency. 

So if actions on schools and pubs is thought slow those who say it is slow need to provide the hard data, not just wave hands about. 

As each nation is unique and at a different stage in the progress of the virus then, as we know, there is no hard data for actions in UK, just an educated guess. Although opposition political parties might, for their own reasons, suggest otherwise.  

The mixed messages on herd immunity were created by a ever helpful press.

Payments systems are, as far as I know, being stood up and should be working by month end? 

Corbyn has been on TV today suggesting the situation is worse due to the underfunded NHS, he did not say how he would have paid for an NHS system that was continually prepared to manage a 20-30% increase in demand by having staff permanently employed, but standing around for years, waiting for a once in a lifetime pandemic.

1 I didn't say the school closures were slow I said they were a fiasco with schools being given vague and contradictory information, I have a daughter brother and sister in law, all working in different schools - all same report the same confusions, and an email from a head master stating we hope to get more guidance on monday ...... at the minute no one knows the position regarding .... 

2 I listened to the press conferences where the experts quite clearly stated they hoped to achieve herd immunity with Johnson at their side

3. The NHS didn't have to be funded for a pandemic - just funded to cope with normal everyday stuff - it was clearly not funded to do so. Why else would Johnson have promised 20b or so over the next 5 years (before covid 19) if funding was adequate. 

The scientific community answer based on the political question asked  - eg how best to protect people or how best to balance the protection of people with the needs of the economy as defined by the politicians.

How would it cope without? if NHS was fully funded for everyday needs it could not then take on more work, on top, to deal with a pandemic outbreak, you can always make a case for even more funding however much is already spent.

I am quite sure there are lots of nations around the world today that would love the UK's underfunded NHS.

off course it couldn't but it would be far better placed than it is today.

even before covid - patients were not discharged because the social care part wasn't properly funded, other patients discharged too quick only to be re-admitted in worse condition, years on waiting lists for ops, patients - even after admission being treated on trolleys in hallways, 2 weeks to see a doctor, And 4 hour waiting lists conned (just take the patients name and 2 min chat then sent back to waiting) - I was in A&E one night recently and 2 patients were lying on chairs in the waiting area - both had been admitted but were awaiting beds nearly a full day after being admitted. Another woman was bleeding openly , her friend running to get toilet roll, yes toilet roll to stem the bleeding, but still waiting hours to be seen - the NHS has been falling apart at the seams for years, if it cracks now, only one party will be to blame..

I don't take any notice anymore of Johnson's blusterings, of his furious ravings that if we all continue to disobey his instructions we shall all be punished. Has he ordered us all to be placed under house arrest yet? I sincerely hope the British people have the courage to call the silly little man's bluff, whatever he may threaten next.

It is true that Labour are much more trust worthy when it comes to running the NHS.

I don't give a flying **** what the latest tally of Deaths might be, Johnson, Nothing, nothing should give a leader of a "democratic" country the right to adopt such absolute dictatorial powers without even any pretence of allowing parliament to to have a say, or allowing any alternative opinion whatsoever. You're a dictator, Johnson, pure and simple, and it doesn't matter how panicky you might look for the cameras, you are, pure and simple, a dictator.

I think my opinion of Johnson is pretty well documented here. 

But he is, more or less, doing the right thing here. Yes, it would have been better if he didn't have to enforce these measures. But as the great British public is apparently too thick, selfish and/or arrogant to follow advice, he has to take whatever actions are best to protect the people. 

My main criticism of his handling is that messages haven't been clear. This one couldn't be much clearer.
