where did these people the beach image walk their dogs pre corona virus? thats where they should be walking them today - I suspect.

People like to drive to beauty spots, lakes, rural fields, and big open beaches to walk their dogs, but that would mean driving out of their local towns to get there.  They are now forced to use the same local beach as everyone else which is a bad idea.

e.g.

Private land and farmers fields.

Don't forget, there is also the owls, badgers, 3 ants, eels that can fly, and the dreaded 'slithering thing'.  ;)

what is your plan for dealing with it?

Serious question - I am interested - I am no fan of Boris and Tories, if there's a better plan lets get it out there and stick it at them.

From what I've witnessed, his plan is to blindly deny reality on the seriousness of this global crisis, wildly rant about Johnson, while thumbing through a copy of The Catcher in the Rye...

But aren't lock downs, business closures etc., what the experts want? Isn't it the government that's dragging its heels, so as to minimise the economic damage.

As to your comments about health workers, I have received comments and messages from NHS employees - basically along the lines - don't believe the hype - the govt have destroyed the NHS and are re-writing rules now, which will lead to increased risk for NHS staff. They are not fans of the govts PR, nor funding priorities, but most think Boris has done too little to follow the experts - not too much.

I'd say this really isn't the time for playing the blame game, neither for politicians or for ourselves, and to be fair Labour and the SNP have been pretty dignified in keeping the kind of political enmity we've seen for the last four years to a bare minimum.

It's also fair to say that no nation was prepared for this, no healthcare system was prepared for this. If there are questions to be answered, then there'll be time when we're through this.

For now, we're all in this together, nationally and globally, and we need to be there to support each other in any way we can. We're in uncharted territory here, and the most important thing is that we protect the vulnerable and those in the frontlines as much as we can.

Totally agree, my point in raising this was to counter any suggestion the health experts might do less  than what the govt is doing.

"Private land and farmers fields."

That is a poor excuse. There's 'right to roam' laws and there will be bridle ways and country paths everywhere. And if your living out in the country they will be available  in every village or town. No need to drive anywhere.

UK broadband providers lift data caps.

Britain’s big telecoms providers have agreed to remove all data caps on fixed-line broadband services that have become a lifeline for people isolated at home during the coronavirus crisis, the government said on Sunday.

This package helps people to stay connected whilst they stay home,” Digital Secretary Oliver Dowden said in the government statement.

Okay then....

Empty hospitals.

I had conversation with my 20 something grocery clerk the other day.  He said the local high school was over half empty with the last Flu Major outbreak.  He got the flu as well and was very ill.  All Schools and business remained open.  No one died.

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick said 170 million masks, 42.8 million gloves, 13.7 million aprons, 182,000 gowns, 10 million pieces of cleaning equipment and 2.3 million eye protectors had been delivered to 58,000 NHS trusts and healthcare settings including GPs, pharmacies and community providers.

Firstly... "Paste as plain text instead." It pops up every time you copy and paste something.

I know some of us on here have difficulty reading... apparently, but I'm pretty sure most don't need entire articles pasted as news headlines.

Secondly... Conspiracies & Secret Societies that way >

Thirdly, no. I don't think this is a bloody hoax. Why don't you get in touch with the families of those recently deceased and ask them if they think this is a hoax!

Man alive, I'd almost forgotten just how - how can I put this mildly? - "rather unrealistic" some of the fringe views are on UM

Covid 19 is a recognized new virus, its existence is not a hoax. You can argue that how it should be combated and the response from governments is either not fast enough or to aggressive but it is something that needs tackling.

If it is ignored then it will kill people as health systems fall over and folks cannot receive treatment that would otherwise have saved their lives.

Anyhoo... back to reality.

Coronavirus: Six months before UK 'returns to normal' - deputy chief medical officer

"Dr Harries said the government would review the lockdown measures for the first time in three weeks.

But she warned the public: "We must not then suddenly revert to our normal way of living. That would be quite dangerous."

She continued: "If we stop then all of our efforts will be wasted and we could potentially see a second peak.

"So over time, probably over the next six months, we will have a three-week review. We will see where we are going.

"We need to keep that lid on - and then gradually we will be able to hopefully adjust some of the social distancing measures and gradually get us all back to normal.

"Three weeks for review, two or three months to see whether we have really squashed it but about three to six months ideally, and lots of uncertainty in that, but then to see at which point we can actually get back to normal."

But Dr Harries also said it was "plausible" that it could further than that."

NHS volunteering: 750,000 people respond to 'biggest call-out since the Second World War.

RVS Chief Executive Catherine Johnstone said: "On Tuesday evening, Royal Voluntary Service readied itself to launch the biggest call-out for volunteers in England since the Second World War.

"Less than 24 hours later, we had hit our target of 250,000 sign-ups and today that number is at 750,000.

"We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the response and cannot thank the public enough. As history shows, it is often in times of crisis that we pull together and become our best selves."

A group of British manufacturers will begin producing medical ventilators for the NHS this week.

Ventilator Challenge UK, a consortium of 14 firms including Airbus and Rolls-Royce, is expected to say that it has secured a formal order for two types of machine.

One model, understood to be government clinicians’ first choice, goes by the codename Project Oyster and involves slight tweaks to an existing design by a little-known Oxfordshire firm called Penlon.

The government has 8,175 ventilators but has turned to British industry to help produce 30,000 in a matter of weeks, to combat an expected surge in new cases.

Helicopters redeployed around UK help in fight against Covid-19

According to a Ministry of Defence news release:

“All the helicopter forces will be supported by the Joint Helicopter Support Squadron, normally based at RAF Benson, as well as the Tactical Supply Wing, based at MoD Stafford. Personnel from all 3 services across the Joint Helicopter Command will be coming together to support the task force. This new Kinloss-based support follows last weekend’s use of an RAF A400M transport aircraft, working with the Scottish Ambulance Service, to evacuate a critically ill patient from the Shetland Islands to Aberdeen to receive intensive care treatment.
