As to your comments about health workers, I have received comments and messages from NHS employees - basically along the lines - don't believe the hype - the govt have destroyed the NHS and are re-writing rules now, which will lead to increased risk for NHS staff. They are not fans of the govts PR, nor funding priorities, but most think Boris has done too little to follow the experts - not too much.

 

I'd say this really isn't the time for playing the blame game, neither for politicians or for ourselves, and to be fair Labour and the SNP have been pretty dignified in keeping the kind of political enmity we've seen for the last four years to a bare minimum.

It's also fair to say that no nation was prepared for this, no healthcare system was prepared for this. If there are questions to be answered, then there'll be time when we're through this.

For now, we're all in this together, nationally and globally, and we need to be there to support each other in any way we can. We're in uncharted territory here, and the most important thing is that we protect the vulnerable and those in the frontlines as much as we can.

Totally agree, my point in raising this was to counter any suggestion the health experts might do less  than what the govt is doing.

That is a poor excuse. There's 'right to roam' laws and there will be bridle ways and country paths everywhere. And if your living out in the country they will be available  in every village or town. No need to drive anywhere.

I had conversation with my 20 something grocery clerk the other day.  He said the local high school was over half empty with the last Flu Major outbreak.  He got the flu as well and was very ill.  All Schools and business remained open.  No one died.

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick said 170 million masks, 42.8 million gloves, 13.7 million aprons, 182,000 gowns, 10 million pieces of cleaning equipment and 2.3 million eye protectors had been delivered to 58,000 NHS trusts and healthcare settings including GPs, pharmacies and community providers.

Covid 19 is a recognized new virus, its existence is not a hoax. You can argue that how it should be combated and the response from governments is either not fast enough or to aggressive but it is something that needs tackling.

If it is ignored then it will kill people as health systems fall over and folks cannot receive treatment that would otherwise have saved their lives.

Coronavirus: Six months before UK 'returns to normal' - deputy chief medical officer

"Dr Harries said the government would review the lockdown measures for the first time in three weeks.

But she warned the public: "We must not then suddenly revert to our normal way of living. That would be quite dangerous."

She continued: "If we stop then all of our efforts will be wasted and we could potentially see a second peak.

"So over time, probably over the next six months, we will have a three-week review. We will see where we are going.

"We need to keep that lid on - and then gradually we will be able to hopefully adjust some of the social distancing measures and gradually get us all back to normal.

A group of British manufacturers will begin producing medical ventilators for the NHS this week.

Ventilator Challenge UK, a consortium of 14 firms including Airbus and Rolls-Royce, is expected to say that it has secured a formal order for two types of machine.

One model, understood to be government clinicians’ first choice, goes by the codename Project Oyster and involves slight tweaks to an existing design by a little-known Oxfordshire firm called Penlon.
