Interesting UK stats:

"To support our NHS and critical care colleagues in planning, both centrally and locally, please find a report on the first reported 2249 patients critically ill with COVID-19."

Full monty at the Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC): Link

1,559 COVID-19 patients are currently being treated in intensive care.

interesting numbers.

Also suggests like weve established ourselves that if you’re diagnosed as serious/critical you’re probably in hospital and if you’re diagnosed as mild you’re probably at home

Therefore we have on average one (1) patient per one UK hospital.

Lord Bath what a character.

On the Figures, Increase in deaths 621, lower than yesterday. Govt estimated 820. a glimmer of hope? The peak we were told is still ten days away.

How many are in Hospital in critical condition, is this figure increasing or decreasing? as this is the source for the daily death figure.

Wuhan, Hubei province. Where it all began, Humans going into remote wilderness. (pay attention to the facts and figures near the end)

Currently the death rate is doubling every 3 days...if this rate continues unabated:  May 1st  =  2,201,600 dead in the UK.  That's how truly dire this all is.

I honestly don't think it will get anywhere near that bad, neither here nor in your neck of the woods.

Not that we should be complacent, but lockdown measures are limiting the spread. Italy, Spain and France have all reported declining numbers in the last few days, suggesting they're getting beyond the peak.

The real question will be what we do when the numbers start dropping. What can we do to maintain control while starting the gears of society turning again. I doubt we'll return to normality as we've known it for many months.

Then there's the question of poorer parts of the world, e.g. Africa, the migrant camps bordering Syria, etc. Even ignoring the massive humanitarian aspect, this virus spreading like wildfire throughout the world will be chaos. Travel and trade alone could be devastated.

How can it be stopped when many in these places don't even have clean water to drink and wash with? :hmm:

I don't think it's going to get that bad either...but for all those people who are still like I was when this first started...More people die from the flu, etc....I just want people to understand the dynamics of this.  Social Distancing ...as I said from the beginning...is the answer ...not a vaccine.

It would also mean 128 million people in the UK had caught it.

Which, out of a population of 60 million, is impressive...

Positive development or lull in the storm.

although still tragic 439 deaths down from 621 which was down from 708.

if this continues then deaths will remain in the region of 10,000 total.

in order to keep things in check, the borders need to be closed to all non-essential human traffic.

Coronavirus: UK cases 'could be moving in the right direction'

The number of coronavirus cases in the UK "could be moving in the right direction", the government's chief scientific adviser has said.

Speaking at the daily Downing Street briefing, Sir Patrick Vallance said it was "possible that we're beginning to see... the curve flattening".

He added, however, it would be another "week or so" before he could be sure.

The foreign secretary, meanwhile, said the PM, who is in intensive care, is in "good spirits" and "stable".

Austerity effects in action:

"Health care workers have raised “grave concerns” over the adequacy of protective equipment provided to them while treating coronavirus patients.

"More than 100 medical professionals said they were in the “frontline battle against an invisible enemy”.

"They have signed an open letter to the Scottish Government over the issue, which they say is leaving them and their patients at risk."

STV (Scotland): Link

"The death toll from coronavirus in Scotland has risen by 70 to 366, with more than 4500 confirmed cases, Nicola Sturgeon has said.

"Total confirmed cases are up by 336 to 4565, while there are 210 patients with Covid-19 in intensive care and 1711 in hospital overall."

STV: Link

"Britain’s coronavirus death toll has increased by 936 to 7,172 after the deadliest day yet.

"The toll previously stood at 6,236.  England has recorded the most deaths (6,483), followed by Scotland (366), Wales (245) and Northern Ireland (78).

"Of the 828 new deaths in England, the youngest victim was just 22, the oldest was 103, and 46 of the patients had no known underlying health conditions."

"Royal College of Nursing Chief Executive Dame Donna Kinnair has revealed that despite recent announcements, personal protective equipment (PPE) against COVID-19 is still not reaching the nursing frontlines.

"In a letter to the Chair, published today, she said the lack of PPE is contributing to fear and anxiety amongst nurses and, along with the lack of testing, is adding to existing staffing pressures.

"The Committee understands that some nurses are having to share PPE, reuse single-use equipment and equipment donated by the public that does not meet the required specifications."

Is England typically tough with penalties for criminals?

If caught, what do you think the penalty will be?   What should it be?

It's much the same as the US, I believe.  You don't get sent to prison unless it's serious or you're a known menace.  Or you're being made an example of, which is what I think will happen to those idiots.  Six months, I reckon.  (I'd just let the police beat them up some)

They look like the 3 who were arrested last week for coughing and spitting in old peoples faces, 1 had been arrested a couple of times but still on the streets even though he was an illegal immigrant.
