Great timing

No, they would be included in those with antibodies (so within the 50%).

The naturally immune are assumed to be immune due to infection with other coronaviruses but they're not many.

If I were to nitpick and I will :D the Indy article says - According to figures published last Thursday by the Office for National Statistics, about 54 per cent of people in England had antibodies against the virus in the week ending 14 March

Since then, a further 7.1 million people have received their first vaccine dose, while nearly 100,000 people have tested positive for Covid-19.

So 54% + 7.1 million which must be around 65/70% now with antibodies.

That has to be close to herd immunity ?

some miserable gits want it to go on and on, and never reach herd immunity. for some covid as given them a new lease of life, classing them as key workers (no medical of course) when its all over their once again nothing. key to nothing not even the front door.

A valid point but you're assuming the vaccine is 100% effective after just one dose. Purely from memory but I think it's something like 50% from one dose and 65-70 from the second.

There's also the fact that this model has a track record of overly optimistic assumptions. Like 50 dead per day at the peak...

Or, you know, use accurate data to make decisions so we don't relax too early and see it dragging on unnecessarily.

Great to see the government you fawn over is going to ignore the study you're so supportive of.

The mental gymnastics should guarantee gold at the next Olympics.

I know! Can't even imagine how soul crushing it must be for those who have never been essential.

It's one thing to know your life's work is pointless but another to have the government official designate your job as unnecessary :(

Not me, its the ONS figures, but I have no idea how they reach that figure and if they assume full immunity after a jab or not.

Presumably they would take real world effectiveness, so not 100% effective, into account?

Europe probes possible blood clot link with Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in a statement on Friday it had started "review" of the safety of the COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen after reports that some patients who had received it had developed blood clots.

The ONS figure is 7.2 million vaccinated. That means 7.2 million people who have had a jab.

You're turning that into 7.2 million immune, which is very different.

Deaths creeping up over the last week or so. Still very low though, of course.

We won't know how we're really doing until everywhere is open, everyone back at work and everybody out and about having fun, travelling and socialising again.  (Obviously)

The numbers could be low only because of lockdowns and no pubs or clubs open..

Nearly 60% of the population as been vaccinated. the first dose alone prevents serious illness and death.

I mean, Boris Johnson deserves credit were its due, showed leadership in the decision making re-vaccines, and im not talking about the purchase but the way the govt went quietly about the country travelling up and down land conducting an audit of facilities and requisitioning businesses to help with the supply of possible vaccines. so we could hit the ground running. remember the damn media oh Germany carries out more tests, the benchmark the UK has surpassed all that to establish itself as a world leader, per capital we've donated more than anyone else to the Covax world vaccination programme, offering a vaccine at cost ie:non profit.

But look at the numbers today.

The trouble is mindsets within certain communities, those aged 60 in the at risk group. clearly lack of uptake in ethnic groups way above the white population. and Covid effects ethnic groups disproportionately. so no excuse for not getting vaccinated. especially in a group that's vulnerable in both terms of age and biology.

I don't really follow the stats.

I would say a significant uptick.

The govt experts are also predicting a smaller, third wave of cases, but i don't know what sort of numbers their predicting, - but seeing how 98% of previous deaths occurred in the groups now vaccinated deaths should remain low. and deaths in 1yrs to 40 yrs is extremely small.

@stevewinn

Yes.  With our vaccination roll-out being a great success, the hospital admissions should continue to decline.

But, I still expect an increase in Covid infections.

A&E departments are being swamped by people who have developed mild side-effects from the AstraZeneca vaccine amid concerns the jab causes blood clots.

Emergency doctors told the Health Service Journal (HSJ) that a growing number of people are presenting to A&E units after having the jab. Some have been advised to go to hospital by GPs.

Dr Katherine Henderson, the president of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, confirmed this was the case to the Guardian. “It’s definitely a thing,” she said.

If we don't get large populations in Africa and South America vaccinated, we will have wave after wave of variants that the current vaccines won't be affected against.
