Speaking from experience, I can tell you that staff absences ALWAYS compound the problems. What indicators make you believe the wards will be full? Is that just an assumption due to the enhanced transmissibility of Omicron? I haven't seen any information about that other than estimates and those seem to be based only on transmissibility. I just wonder how far into the spread of Omicron they will continue the restrictions IF hospitalizations and severe disease aren't being seen on a wide scale. Last year, early in the onset of the pandemic, we sent two navy hospital ships to NYC and helped fund field hospitals in Central Park and in other states that were being hardest hit. Most of these extra sites weren't used and later were disassembled. Back then, there really WERE instances of bodies being stacked up but they were in cold storage trailers, unlike the handful of dead we saw outside of a hospital in LA recently. I'm still hoping that Omicron provides widespread immunity to the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike and that this allows us to put this scourge behind us. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
