On prioritising vaccines. The question never answered is this. The vaccine is in limited supply. In order to vaccinate teachers and police who or which group will have to miss out? The vulnerable group? The over 60s? Or over 50s?

The UK’s goods exports slumped by £54bn in 2020 and Britain lost market share to its main competitors as Covid-19 hammered global trade, according to new research published this morning.

The findings, from Aston University’s Lloyd’s Banking Group Centre for Business Prosperity, showed that Britain suffered a 14.7 per cent drop in goods exports, one of the largest of any major country in 2020, and also saw a slower recovery as other nations gobbled up market share in key export destinations.

Goods exports including cars, oil and gas, machinery and pharmaceuticals all tumbled as the pandemic battered economies worldwide and supply chains broke down.

The network of emergency Nightingale hospitals set up to cope with a surge of Covid-19 cases is to close from April, the NHS has said.

Established last spring amid fears that the NHS might be overwhelmed, the temporary hospitals in England were largely not needed.

Some were used as rehab centres and the sites in London and Sunderland will stay open for vaccinations.

The NHS said they had been the "ultimate insurance policy".

There could still be a further 30,000 coronavirus deaths in the UK, models have suggested, despite the vaccination programme already having inoculated the vast majority the UK's extremely clinical vulnerable.

Covid has led to an epidemic of eating disorders

With community services difficult to access, more people are getting sicker and are reaching a point of crisis. Their illnesses are getting worse because they’ve not been able to get the early treatment that is crucial to combatting an eating disorder.

The sicker they become the more likely it is they’ll need inpatient care and potentially life-saving treatment. Sadly, we are already seeing this in services.

New data from one provider collaborative in the south of England shows there’s been a 20 per cent increase in the number of adult emergency referrals and a doubling in the waiting time for urgent care from 33 to 67 days since the pandemic. There’s also been a fourfold rise in the number of young people waiting for urgent care and a 129 per cent increase in those needing routine treatment compared to this time last year.

A new face mask that kills up to 99.9% of Covid-19 within five minutes, is in mass production, and already being used in schools and care homes.

The inner and outer layers prevent airborne droplets from being breathed in or out, and another layer, which includes millions of tiny particles of copper, kills the virus once it is trapped inside.

The new design has been patented, and is being produced at scale in Nottingham.
