I meant "effective", obviously.

It would be good if I could use my phone keyboard properly, though.

The target of offering a first COVID vaccine dose to the nine most vulnerable groups by 15 April has been reached, the government has said.

Ministers had vowed to offer a COVID-19 jab to all over-50s, the clinically vulnerable and health and social care workers - about 32 million people - by Thursday.

The target - for the whole of the UK - was reached three days early and means adults under 50 will start to be invited for their first jab "in the coming days", Number 10 said.

Which is a total lie from the government, since there are still hundreds of thousands of vulnerable asthmatics who have yet to be offered a vaccine.

I very much doubt that they are actually factoring in asthmatics either way, since most were dumped out of priority Group 6 back in February/March.

Setton won't be eligible for the vaccine for months - he said he was 29, not 45.

Also, a lot of areas are still working through the 50+ groups.

I wonder if they've asked any of them why they haven't had the jab.

Who cares.

Reach herd immunity without them. I think when its offered to younger age groups the uptake will be much lower. Covid is a disease of the elderly, infirm, and those of weak constitution.

The Department of Health is under pressure to stop charging travellers and holidaymakers “rip off” fees of more than £100 for PCR Covid tests.

Travel industry and private testing firms said the charge by the Government was exorbitant at more than double the rate of the cheapest PCR tests.

They warned it was effectively sanctioning PCR test costs that were unaffordable for many travellers, adding at least an extra £400 to a holiday for a family of four.

Introducing Covid status certificates to help reopen society risks discriminating against some groups, the UK equality watchdog has warned.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission says certificates to prove who is vaccinated could help to ease restrictions "in principle".

But they could create a "two-tier society whereby only certain groups are able to fully enjoy their rights".

Blanket mandatory vaccination policies are "likely to be unlawful", it added.

BBC report

A coronavirus variant with a “double mutation” has been detected in the UK after having first emerged in India.

A total of 77 cases of the variant, known as B.1.617, have been recorded in the UK up to April 14, according to Public Health England (PHE).

Of these cases, 73 were recorded in England and four in Scotland.

Pregnant women should be offered a Covid jab when other people their age get one, the UK's vaccine advisers say.

They say the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are preferable because data from the US in 90,000 pregnant women has not raised any safety concerns.

Up until now, only women with underlying health conditions or those whose risk of exposure to the virus was high were eligible.
