Pauline Christianity was then twisted by Roman Christianity with additions to his letters and outright fraudulent letters attributed to him and others. 

That's just my 2 cents.

 

You can go further and find disconcerting parallels with it in Egyptian worship of Horus and Greco-Roman rites of Dionysus. Christianity is the great borrower religion, incorporating theological archetypes into it's mythos, thousands of years older than itself.
