’Pale Blue Dot’ Revisited

For the 30th anniversary of one of the most iconic views from the Voyager mission, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, is publishing a new version of the image known as the "Pale Blue Dot."

The updated image uses modern image-processing software and techniques while respecting the intent of those who planned the image.

I just shared Carl's Pale Blue Dot with my son and wife yesterday.

Its potent message about the skewing power of myopia has always resonated with me.

Carl was a real gem of a guy.

I worked on a few features, back to back with the same partner.  This doesn't happen all that often.

This chap was close personal friends with Carl for many years.

While working with him, I shamelessly pleaded for, and hung on every word of the stories of their experiences together that gave a glimpse into the private man behind the media mask.  For all I heard, he was even more exceptional in private.

What a gem.  Carl, you are missed.
