'Donald Trump’s acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, reportedly admitted that the US “needs more immigrants” during a private talk delivered to a group of university students.

'Mr Mulvaney, who was speaking at the Oxford Union on Thursday night, said America was “desperate for more people” in order to fuel the country’s economic growth, according to the Washington Post.

'“We are running out of people to fuel the economic growth that we’ve had in our nation over the last four years,” he said. “We need more immigrants.”'

Yet the current administration refuses to process asylum applications and even forces the applicants to live in Mexico waiting for the application to be processed!  What is that about?  Is Mulvaney asking for none south american and non mexican immigrants?  It makes NO sense.

Hmm.  Perhaps they should stop cutting back on legal immigration?  Ending the diversity lottery, ending chain immigration, reducing asylum claims, reducing refugees, slow walking the immigration process, deporting vets, etc.

Heck, this article shows all the ways this administration has attacked legal immigration: https://www.afsc.org/blogs/news-and-commentary/trumps-attacks-legal-immigration-system-explained

Yep, and there would be no reason that I can think of for anyone from Norway to immigrate to the U.S. unless they are criminals or tired of the cold weather.  :P

People need to learn how to read.  Mulvaney is talking about legal immigration.  People here legally are those that want to work and be prosperous and productive.  Illegals drain our resources.  They do not add to them.  They take and not give back.  Do we really want that?  Washington encouraged immigration on only one stipulation.  That those that come here act in good character.  Illegals by being here are lying and cheating.  If they can lie and cheat on this, lying and cheating on other things are just as easy.  Do we want that kind of character?

What is illegal about applying for asylum?  That is a LEGAL way to immigrate.  What are you talking about anyway?  There is no encouragement with the current administration for legal immigration unless the person is a television commedian like John Oliver, Tervor Noah and a plethora of others.

Do you understand what Asylum is? Asylum is only for those who are in immediate danger of being killed by their government for political reasons or threat of becoming a immediate victim to war crimes like genocide. That is the only reason you become a asylum seeker. Most of the asylum seekers are just economic migrants who are not in any immediate danger and only jamming up the system for those who's lives practically depend on going through this process as fast as they can. If they want to legally immigrant here, they need to go through the proper channels and not exploit a system designed to help those who's lives are in danger.

I know what asylum means.  It doesn't matter what you think about people seeking asylum, they fill out the request and go to interviews etc. and their requests are processed they are following the legal procedure.  Those not deemed in danger don't get to stay.  It is a legal process and in the last 2 years the number of applications getting processed has been less than 100.  And for months none got processed.  I am not talking about the outcome, but the actual process that has been stopped.

Maybe you could go down to Mexico where they are all dying of hunger waiting for news of status of their applications and talk to those people about why they want asylum.

You must be quite a reprobate yourself if you assume everyone in a certain group is just an "economic migrant".  I say that because only people who are doing something insisting others are doing it, without any proof, are trying to deflect the scrutiny of what they are doing.

Majority of them are ECONOMIC migrants heading to United States in hopes of exploiting the system to get in. Instead of going through asylum system, they should go through customs aka the proper channel for legal immigration. Asylum isn't designed to handle this many people at once and people who is in immediate danger are dying cause of those trying to exploit the system so excuse me for not respecting these people. They know what they are doing and the consequences of what they are doing, but they did it anyways and clogging up the Asylum system for years to come. Only a handful are actual asylum seekers and they are stuck waiting in line behind those that are not. Either go through the legal proper channel or don't come at all. It doesn't help that Democrats are sending staff to Mexico to coach these migrants on how to exploit and beat the system.

If they can exploit the system then they are not the problem, the system is and I still don't think you know what you are talking about.  You are just projecting your fears.  If the asylum applications were being processed there would not be so many waiting and if you don't know what is going on in south america than how can you even make an opinion about it.  You are seeing the consequences of Trump administration policies, not economic migrants trying to "beat the system".

Not exactly.  The op started off about legal but morphed into merging legal with illegal.  Illegals are not immigrants.  They are illegal or just criminals.  Non-citizens do not have the final say as to when and where they cross into this country.  No trespassing mean just that.

When the migrants were being interviewed, they stated multiple reasons they were coming to claim asylum and only a few had legitimate reasons. Majority of them were categorized as economic migrants by the governments that they were traveling through and they have forcefully bypassed multiple nations. They are suppose to apply asylum in the closest asylum offering nations, yet they skipped over two to three nations that offered asylum in favor of United States. If they were true asylum seekers, they would accept the first safest nation they come upon to get away, so yes they are mostly economic migrants.

There is a reason for them not stopping in the countries between their home country and the U.S.  They were turned away or conditions were worse than what they were fleeing.  If they were turned down why are they at the border waiting to hear about their applications?  Because they weren't turned away. they were just told they had to wait on the Mexico side of the border until the applications are processed, which isn't happening.

Nonetheless, Asylum seekers are people going through the legal process of immigration.

I call bull**** on your explanation for them not stopping. Mexico is 100 times better than the nations that they are "Fleeing" from. Asylum system isn't designed to help or take in people from impoverished nations period. They never once tried to apply for asylum in the nations that they bypassed or trampled through to get to United States. Heck they refused asylum offer from MEXICO! They evenly forcefully stormed borders of nations that were in their way for crying out loud!

Going through the asylum process is not a blank check to just enter the country whenever they damn well please and then magically stop seeking asylum.

And I call Bull***t on your idea that they are mostly economic migrants.  You have never been to mexico or probably even the south west.  That video is old news and distorted veiw specifically designed to get people like you to support inhumane practices.

It isn't a process of immigration, it is an process to provide safe refugee to those that are in immediate danger. Why do you not get that?

You are correct.  It is a whole system that most Americans seem blissfully unaware of.

It is one of 3 ways immigrants can legally enter the country.  What don't you get about that?
