Thank you very much Jules.

Here is another link that names the Virus (SARS-CoV-2) which is the actual Virus that causes Covid-19 Disease. The link below is from The World Health Organization.

"The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that a laboratory confirmed case of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 has been confirmed in an individual with no relevant travel history or exposure to other COVID-19 patients. At this time health officials have been unable to determine how the patient was exposed to the virus."

https://www.contagionlive.com/news/cdc-confirms-community-spread-of-covid19-in-the-united-states

Here's the report. The individual is from Sacramento. I see no mention of SARS. If the CDC is announcing this, it will be on their website. The virus is related to SARS, which we knew, but it is not the same virus.

I found it.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html

Q: What is the name of the virus causing the outbreak of coronavirus disease starting in 2019?

A: On February 11, 2020, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses, charged with naming new viruses, named the novel coronavirus, first identified in Wuhan, China, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, shortened to SARS-CoV-2.

As the name indicates, the virus is related to the SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) that caused an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002-2003, however it is not the same virus.

Q: What is the source of COVID-19?

A: Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. Some cause illness in people, and others, such as canine and feline coronaviruses, only infect animals. Rarely, animal coronaviruses that infect animals have emerged to infect people and can spread between people. This is suspected to have occurred for the virus that causes COVID-19. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) are two other examples of coronaviruses that originated from animals and then spread to people. More information about the source and spread of COVID-19 is available on the Situation Summary: Source and Spread of the Virus.

Well this isn't good, it seems you can catch Coronavirus more than once.

Quote

A woman working as a tour bus guide in Japan has tested positive for coronavirus for a second time, in what authorities say is the first such case.

Though a first in Japan, cases of second positive tests have been reported in China.

“Once you have the infection, it could remain dormant and with minimal symptoms, and then you can get an exacerbation if it finds its way into the lungs,” said Professor Philip Tierno at New York University’s school of medicine.

Trump is addressing the nation after first death in US. Trump just said she was a 51 yr old who was a high medical risk. Live stream in second link. I edited because I don't want to post false statements.

Enough people must have thrown a fit in media websites to get this conference televised. Hopefully you saw it.

Washington officials later said the patient who died was a man in his 50's with underlying medical issues.

Officials in Washington state are now saying they fear they are having an outbreak of the virus. It got there somehow. It didn't swim by itself. Most travel between the US and Asia goes out of and into west coast airports. Somebody got through if this is true. Will check to see if the CDC is saying anything about this.

Nothing at the moment.

Yeah. The death was predictably an immune compromised individual.

But I’ll tell you what, I had to go to three different stores trying to buy some pocket sized spray on hand sanitizer. People are freaking out. My mother texted me and I told i was shopping and she asked if I was wearing gloves. I’m not too worried. Most of the people that contract this don’t even have severe enough symptoms to go to the doctor. Like the flu it’s mainly young children and older people that are at risk.

Are they talking about this outbreak they think is going to happen? I'm worrying if someone flew in that wasn't picked up by airport security. Somebody had to bring it in. There's nothing on the CDC site saying anything about this.

Thanks. I did watch it. So the vast majority of cases are undetected because the symptoms are so mild people aren't going to the doctor and that's how this is spreading? They probably will find more cases but it's good that most people who came in contact with it aren't real sick.

As I’ve thought the whole time, a flu killing many people in a place like China does not mean it’s going to be nearly as deadly in the USA. I believe our ability to fight something like this is much better. If I’m wrong about that I’ll be pretty surprised.

The most annoying part of all the panic driven news coverage is that there have been nearly 30 deaths in this state from the seasonal flu which they don’t even talk about. Pathetic.

Same here OverSword. PA had 66 deaths so far, children included, and the season isn't over. An old flu isn't good political ammunition. That's what I really think. Thanks for sending that news report. I'm sorry it interrupted your game, but you wouldn't believe how much of that was cut out of the reporting here. That video is 40 minutes long, not 45 seconds, and they did talk about how mild most of the cases are. The nut cases on the east coast are going to be really disappointed when we aren't all dying.

You are more charitable in your description of them than I am.  I don't think they are nuts or ignorant, I think they have an agenda and don't care who gets hurt while they pursue it.

And yet - curiously - the COVID-19 virus doesn't seem to be targeting young children ?

What makes you say that? I haven’t heard what the demographics are in Asia but I assume that like other flus it’s mainly the very young and old that can’t fight it off.

Age & sex demographics. (older men most at risk)

Apart from aged care facilities I wonder whether smokers are at risk, not entirely due to the lung damage, but placing fingers near the mouth (when drawing on a smoke), which we are warned not to do, Does China have a high percentage of male smokers?

OK. this the 1st site I found in a search regarding smoking in China;

You'd think so, yes. However, there appears to be something unusual about COVID-19. Thus far, no children below 10 years old have died of the disease, and very very few up to the age of 40.

From 50 onward, the death rate increases, jumping significantly at 70+.

Here's a very good article that addresses who is more at risk and discusses the risk to smokers.

https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2020-02-28/coronavirus-strikes-men-older-people-the-hardest

"We certainly see more impact from viruses in people who have some kind of underlying chronic disease," O'Leary said. "Children tend to do better with these diseases than older adults because, in general, they tend to be a healthier population."

Women also appear to have an immune advantage over men when it comes to coronavirus, and this could be because women tend to have more robust immune systems than men.

Dr. Greg Poland is a vaccine researcher and infectious disease specialist with the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minn. He said, "In general, females respond better to infectious diseases than males. That's even known with influenza virus. Men are sicker than women when they get influenza."

For example, men in China smoke at a much higher rate than women, research has shown. More than half of Chinese men smoke, compared with around 3% of women.

It turns out smoking activates a receptor used by the coronavirus to infect human cells, ACE-2, Poland said.

"That is the speculation behind why we are seeing such an unreasonably high severe case and fatality rate inside China," Poland noted.

ZERO deaths of newborns to nine year olds????? I question the Chinese honesty in their reporting of figures.  That sounds like serious BS.
