Woman pees alcohol despite not drinking

"A woman has been diagnosed with a never-before-seen condition after doctors discovered she was urinating alcohol – without drinking a single drop.

"The unnamed patient, 61, has become the first person in the world to be diagnosed with ‘urinary auto-brewery syndrome’ caused by yeast in her bladder that ferments sugar in her urine to produce alcohol.

"The process is almost exactly the same as one used by beer makers – but it was happening in her own body."

Maybe she could capitlize on that by peeing in bottles and selling it as a micro-brew.

Probably the syndrome has not been diagnosed before because women usually go to the doctor before the yeast infection spreads to other parts of the body.

I hope that she will get a pancreas transplant at the same time as the liver transplant so that she doesn't have to have diabetes anymore, at least I know that they often do that with people with diabetes who need to get a kidney transplant due to the diabetes.

Candida glabrata is very common in most people and typically harmless. However, diabetes can cause escalated growth and the carrier in many cases has no idea.

This is not 'never before seen'. It's quite well known, actually.

Actually, no it's not.  What you are thinking of is "Auto-brewery syndrome" which is similar but produces alcohol in the digestive system.  This one produces alcohol in the Bladder.  Not the same but similar and thus I do understand how you'd think it was well known.  You'd be somewhat correct to that degree.

does it mean it enters bloodstream and will be detected by a breathalyzer?

decades ago i heard a story about a guy in japan, who had it, no one would hire him, he smelled like morning after heavy drinking. yet he never touched any alcohol

The digestive system is how things get into the blood stream in the first place.  Yes.

Wow. Ok. If I had this condition I'd be bottling it and making a fortune.
