freetoroam Posted March 5, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2020 Quote 86% of women hold at least one bias against women . Almost a third of men and women think it’s acceptable for a man to beat his wife. . The first gender social norm indexanalysed data from 75 countries https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2020/mar/05/nine-out-of-10-people-found-to-be-biased-against-women ? A list of who they are asking, like their culture and religious beliefs and how backwards some of these people are would be helpful. I would like to know how many people in England who have been brought up in the western culture think it is acceptable for a man to beat his wife and are open to admit it. 5

For me, I fully realise that just as many woman as men are disasters. You know the type, bought up in an abusive household where they weren't socialised properly. Poor interpersonal and social skills. Angry at the world and use that anger to justify behaving however the hell they want and poor conduct. I would never beat a wife because I would never make the mistake of marrying a woman that was a disaster. Likewise I`m not a disaster myself so dont get the urge to be violent to my partner for whatever reasons some men do it. 3

These polls are misleading and are not a true reflection on how things are as they are clumping the survey's together and making it look as if the whole world are the same. 8

quiXilver Posted March 5, 2020 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2020 I'm with Tuco's Gas on this one. My foray into advanced statistics taught me one thing above all. That one can make statistics show anything one desires, through control of sample size and the 'randomizing' (or not) of said sample. Always remember... The menu is not the meal. You can read the word steak, but it won't fill you up. The map is never the territory, but a rough aproximation. The model in your mind is never the reality. It's your interpretation of it. 4
Sheltie Posted March 5, 2020 #8 Share Posted March 5, 2020 "Back in the day I was always warning against generalisation, it is tantamount to bigotry. when we pigeon hole people, or classify “type”. All such and such are..... we do ourselves and others a cheap disservice." Seems to me a strong case could be made that this thread is making extremely general comments about men and women. I'd be pretty surprised if any moderators decided to lock this thread in less than 24 hrs, however. Generalization is the name of the game now. Just like saying "Every white person is racist" which in itself is a racist remark. 4
HandsomeGorilla Posted March 5, 2020 #10 Share Posted March 5, 2020 I don't know about 90%, but it really surprises me how many men actually do hold women in lower regard, especially if she's their superior. People's insecurities would make me laugh if they weren't so sad. It honestly never occurred to me to think differently of anyone based on their appearance or gender. I just wasn't raised like that. What a novel concept, eh? My former boss was a lesbian woman, probably one of the best superiors I've ever had and we remain friends, but I had numerous coworkers make derogatory, sexist comments about her or about her orientation. Things can go both ways, still, though. I'm a guy and still have a hard time resisting a pretty face. Good chance I'll go out of my way to do something for an attractive woman (she was a very pretty lady) whereas I may not be so willing to jump in if it were just some dude.

I have a first-cousin who was stabbed by his wife in a fit of her anger. She was from Louisiana and had a bit of a problem with impulse control. My cousin was strong and had walked away after a few fights with men who themselves weren't ABLE TO. To give an idea of how men were raised in our family, he drove himself to the ER, never explained how it happened and forgave her for her craziness. He definitely isn't a personality type that would just accept such treatment. He just couldn't believe she could remain as out of control as that for any extended time. Turns out, he had to admit he was wrong and move on a few years later.

TigerBright19 Posted March 11, 2020 #17 Share Posted March 11, 2020 From my own experience the male school teachers I had would mark my homework correctly, but the female teachers would make mistakes and downgrade my work, and I had to repeatedly get them to read my answers again and they would mark them up properly. This would overtime cause bias against women through no fault of my own. Fast forward a few years to college. All of the guys dropped out of class except me. Spending each day in a room filled with girls who never spoke to me because I was a boy ended up causing me to have negative opinions of girls through no fault of my own. Fast forward a few more years and every job application that proved successful was due to the fact that the people interviewing me were all men, but each time I was interviewed by women I never got the job. This would over time cause even more resentment against women in my subconscious through no fault of my own. Even nowadays at work the women do not socialize or acknowledge me when I saw hello or good morning. If there is bias between the genders I would say it is largely due to the fact that women are prejudiced against men which in turn causes men to become biased against women. Festina Posted March 19, 2020 #20 Share Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) It’s no wonder as the world is under the control of a Patriarchy — the Abrahamic, Hindu religion and the Chinese all regard women as of lesser value than men. The irony is that men are considered ‘disposable’ in war as the Abrahamic God Yahweh/Jehovah, The LORD is a chthonic War god.. I wonder how many people know this? Quote Yahweh[Notes 1] was the national god of the kingdoms of Israel (Samaria) and Judah.[3] His origins reach at least to the early Iron Age and apparently to the Late Bronze,[4] and in the oldest biblical literature he is a storm-and-warrior deity[5] who leads the heavenly armyagainst Israel's enemies.[6] At that time the Israelites worshipped Yahweh alongside a variety of Canaanite gods and goddesses, including El, Asherah and Baal,[7] but in time El and Yahweh became conflated,[8] El-linked epithets such as El Shaddai came to be applied to Yahweh alone,[9] and other gods and goddesses such as Baal and Asherah were absorbed into the Yahwistic religion.[10] From the 9th into the 6th centuries BCE the Yahwistic religion separated itself from its Canaanite heritage as Yahweh became the main god of the Kingdom of Israel (Samaria) and of Judah,[11] and over time the royal court and Temple in Jerusalem promoted Yahweh as the god of the entire cosmos, possessing all the positive qualities previously attributed to the other gods and goddesses.[12][13] By the end of the Babylonian captivity (6th century BCE), the very existence of foreign gods was denied, and Yahweh was proclaimed as the creator of the cosmos and the one true God of all the world.[13] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahweh THERE CAN BE NO SON, DAUGHTER OR FATHER WITHOUT A MOTHER.
