NASA explains why image blip is not aliens

Recommended Posts

Eldorado

"UFO aficionados recently got excited about a strange shape that appeared in images captured by NASA's Stereo mission.

"Was it aliens? Nope. It was a reflection.

"Stereo, short for Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory, launched as twin space observatories in 2006 on a mission to study the sun and coronal mass ejections. One of the spacecraft is still in operation.

"Its HI2 telescope captured a nifty view that included Venus and Earth in late February. That's when the mysterious wheel-like shape appeared."

If it was aliens we would have visitors by now i guess :)

Maybe they just wait for this virus to go down then they will come.

Those UFO pilots are so clever!!

So NASA satellites produce images with internal reflection thereby mucking up the image with artefacts?  What a waste of taxpayers money.

It's the pros and cons of sensitivity vs the occasional reflection due to a very bright object.

...and release a far more contagious and deadly virus. Sit back and wait for us all to die so they don't have to make a mess.

Perhaps if you learnt a little about photography, you might learn the VERY basic fact that all camera/lens combinations (yes ALL) will have lens flare effects, especially when imaging small bright objects on dark backgrounds. No matter how well designed is the lens system, there is simply no way to avoid internal reflections when you have lens elements.

This is REALLY basic stuff.  Plus, if you had watched even a small number of Stereo images/animations, you would have seen this effect before.

So, to summarise your 'contribution', you don't understand lenses, and have never taken any interest in the Stereo spacecraft (one of the more famous and useful NASA projects).

May I suggest you pick a different hobby?
