Diesel cars do NOT like short journeys only

"Diesel drivers need to get ready for a very specific coronavirus complication, experts have warned.

"That's because a particular part of their car isn't remotely designed to be only used for short runs to the shop or park.

"And it's all thanks to something fitted to the exhaust designed to make them better for the environment.

"The Diesel Particulate Filter, or DPF, has been fitted to all diesels since 2009, and is present on a lot of older cars too."

“There’s a number of ways you’ll know you’ve got a DPF problem," O'Malley said.

“You might see a filter-shaped warning sign on your dash, you might notice stilted performance or strong smell from the exhaust, or your car might even go into limp mode.

“It might not start at all."

Diesel engines aren't designed for short runs, period. Except for ones with combustion ignition.
