Press jaws drop at Trump press conference

This was about him. And more particularly his profound sense of grievance that the media has been critical of his handling of Covid-19.

If you think that is an unfair exaggeration, after a few moments he said he was going to play a video. It had been produced by White House staff, even though it bore all the hallmarks of a campaign video. If it was a movie, it would have been called "Coronavirus: Why Donald Trump is Great - and the Media Awful".

One of the reporters quoted in the film would complain immediately afterwards that her words had been taken out of context.

If you were watching the news conference on TV, you would have seen the film. But in the briefing room, where I had my vantage point, Donald Trump was alternately scowling at us, then pointing and smiling derisively and then smirking, as if to say, "Look at all you losers - I've nailed you with this".

Huh, Trump making a Corona virus update all about himself.  Color me surprised.

I have to ask, was there any information about the virus or actions to control it during this update that anyone recalls?

@RoofGardener I didn't give an opinion one way or another.  Since I'll probably be asked at some point first let me state :w00t:

Then I'll say I didn't see what trump showed the press but know that what he did show them was themselves and Governors being wrong about everything Corona.  I also know that one of his Medical Science advisers told the press that trump listened to and followed their advice and when some woman, probably the one you were talking about asked if he was being coerced to say that he gave her a look like she was a complete idiot.

The media and the Dems walk hand in hand.  Accusations are made against Trump every day.  He naturally uses his press time to defend himself.  If they were civil to him, he would respond likewise.  They attack him, so he attacks back.  You could actually say the main stream media is effectively part of the Democratic campaign and each time Trump steps into that press conference he is the main target of attack.  Everybody knows 9/10 times of the questions are designed to be negative, suggestive, and insulting.  Unfortunately many of the reporters don't have any integrity in journalism  e.g.  Treat others the same way they themselves would like to be treated.  Trump picks up on key words in their questions and can tell immediately when a reporter is setting him up for a trap, e.g.  A hypothetical scenario - Trump is told by his advisors about a potential cure in the making and he tells the media all about it.  The reporters then reply sarcastically with "Mr. President you claimed there is a cure." and their choice of words would be designed to twist around what he said out of context to attack him, and this would cause him to roll his eyes and think to himself "not another idiot" and then he would respond with - "You're a terrible person.  I did not claim there is a cure, our medical specialists relayed the information they had to my advisors, and they informed me that there potentially could be a cure in the making, so Mr. reporter get your facts right.  I did not 'claim' there 'is' a cure.  I was told by my advisors that there might be a cure in the making."  If the reporter was unbiased and had a shred of integrity he would have worded his question properly e.g. "Mr. President you have been told about a possible cure.  Could you be more specific please?  Thank you."  Sadly not in today's world.   So we end up with each press conference turning into a continuous back and forth attack and defend pantomime.

Of course he's going to punch back.  No news there.  The lying scum have become so predictable that it's easy to prove them wrong.  Here's the thing... that little montage was created in a couple of hours.  Imagine what his campaign will produce.  Those who hate him will continue to do so and those who support him will continue to do so.  If enough fence sitters elect a Democrat, they will deserve exactly what they get.

Well, I dunno @OverSword. Seems to me there was a female reporter who kept asking questions ,but refused to listen to President Trumps responses, but just kept on battering away regardless.

If it was ME, I would have asked the Secret Service to shoot her, just to shut her up.

Sadly, he seemed to be more... civilised.. than me :(

I've come to believe that this trait of his personality is what makes them INSANE.  They think they can disrespect him and push him in ways NO president has ever been disrespected before and at some point he'll snap and it will hurt his support.  That just shows how slow witted these haters are.  If he went off on that rude beeotch and asked that she be removed, he'd GAIN a couple of points :)

Just keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. Meanwhile , the rest of us will ignore his blathering and continue listening to real experts who actually know what their doing. Not paid toadies.

Like Fauci?  Surely if he says something, you guys believe it was divinely inspired?  Oh, wait, that was just while he seemed to be kicking Trump.  Feel free to ignore everything he says, but I really don't think you can.  It's such a comforting obsession for you :w00t:

BTW, are the governors of Cali and NY, Oregon and Washington "toadies" as well?   ALL of them downplayed the seriousness of this contagion.  ALL OF THEM tried to walk a necessary line between panic that could destroy their tax bases and their responsibility to their citizens.  I give all of them credit for that.  They were trying to do what seemed best with the info they had access to.  Oh yeah, there are timelines out there disproving all this nonsense about Trump being culpably late.  That'd be De Blasio, Cuomo, Inslee...

Problem is, they are almost always correct.  Not 'accusations'.  That puts a slight hole into your logic.

If you disagree, how about answering this question. . What did Trump do during February, in order to contain the pandemic's spread in the US?

Is that meant to be funny?  Even if it's a joke (oh how we laughed...), it kinda sums up the problems in the US in just one sentence..

I guess shutting down air traffic from China and the EU don't count?  You seem to want to hold him responsible for the actions that were not taken at the state level.  You'd also blame him just as energetically if he demanded states take actions their governors did not agree with.  First, he's a tyrant and then he isn't tyrant enough.  With the exception of clearly understood Constitutional issues and the Supremacy clause, presidents do not have free rein to demand anything of the several states.  The best example today is the whole "sanctuary" stupidity.

The fact you'll never acknowledge, but never be able to silence, is that he has followed every recommendation made by his team of experts.  EVERY ONE.  You should probably be more concerned with why you are obsessed with a leader in a country thousands of miles away from your home.  If he continues to win, as he has in every contest with the media and the Ds, you might want to consider relaxation therapy or summat.   :w00t:   I'm not kidding.  I've tried to understand how citizens outside the U.S. can be so pro or anti U.S. politics and I just don't get it.  If my life depended on it, I couldn't name your leader.  That isn't meant to disrespect your country, I just have no need to get excited about the choices you make in OZ.  That is YOUR business, not America's.

And Trump himself said this, on the China flights 'shutdown'....

“And if we didn’t do that, thousands and thousands of people would have died.

Oh dear - that was a total fail.....

And the EU shutdown - MARCH.

Perhaps I should have clarified - name something Trump did during February that was actually USEFUL.

In February he wanted to keep the pandemic out of the US entirely by stopping flights, and closing the borders.  He was accused of being xenophobic and members on this very website were concerned that his actions at the time were too strong and they feared he would impose martial law.  The nation was still in early 'prevention' mode and the main headlines were about the Democratic nominees and stopping the infected cruise ships from docking.  His advisors would keep him informed as things changed, and Trump himself (being a businessman) was naturally concerned about the stock market and securing a healthy economy during the early stages of the crisis, which at the time, he believed (was advised to believe) was fully under control.

A few of his Tweets from February:

Feb 4th - "Market up big today on very good economic news. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS."

Feb 11th - "New Stock Market RECORD. Congratulations, spend your money wisely. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!!!!!"

Feb 19th - "Highest Stock Market In History, By Far!"

Feb 24th - "The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!"

Feb 25th - "CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus, including the very early closing of our borders to certain areas of the world. It was opposed by the Dems, “too soon”, but turned out to be the correct decision. No matter how well we do, however, the Democrats talking point is that we are doing badly. If the virus disappeared tomorrow, they would say we did a really poor, and even incompetent, job. Not fair, but it is what it is. So far, by the way, we have not had one death. Let’s keep it that way!"

Feb 26th - "There is currently no reported community spread of COVID19 in the US."

Feb 26th - "Low Ratings Fake News MSDNC (Comcast) & CNN are doing everything possible to make the Coronavirus look as bad as possible, including panicking markets, if possible. Likewise their incompetent Do Nothing Democrat comrades are all talk, no action. USA in great shape!"

Feb 27th - "Do Nothing Democrats were busy wasting their time on the Impeachment Hoax, & anything they could do to make the Republican Party look bad, while I was busy calling early boarder & flight closings, putting us way ahead in our battle with the Coronavirus. Dems called it very wrong."

Feb 28th - "So, the Coronavirus, which started in China and spread to various countries throughout the world, but very slowly in the U.S. because President Trump closed our border, and ended flights, VERY EARLY, is now being blamed, by the Do Nothing Democrats, to be the fault of “Trump”.  The Do Nothing Democrats were busy wasting time on the Immigration Hoax, & anything else they could do to make the Republican Party look bad, while I was busy calling early BORDER & FLIGHT closings, putting us way ahead in our battle with Coronavirus. Dems called it VERY wrong!"

He did what he was advised to do.  The nation was still in prevention mode, not containment mode.

I didn't watch it. But one of my friends texted me and claims he said that they are going to open the nation up in phases. I guess phase 1 will be the gyms being allowed to be open.

Problem with trump is he's egotistical and hotheaded , and I honestly think he knows very little if anything about the constitution. I don't claim to be a constitution expert either , but I am not a lawmaker , politician or the president.

You've clearly forgotten that they'd gotten no clear directions from Trump in the first place. If he'd placed a manditory self isolation order nation wide, you'd be on par with Canada's numbers right now. Instead he dilly dallied and left it up to individual states. States that are predominantly Republican aren't following protocol and are doing outlandish, dangerous, and very stupid things like making wrestling a essential service, churches remaing open, and public gatherings allowed. The inconsistency between states regarding Covid-19 responses is incredibly stupid. The reason for all this chaos? The guy who's supposed to be leading, isnt. He spends his pressers telling everyone what a marvellous job he's doing,  refusing to answer pertinent questions from the press, dangerous misinformation about cures, and huge lack of consistency.

So once again, nice try at deflection, but you failed miserably. Yet again.

Mmm, debate by Twitter.....  Pardon me if I don't click.  At least I know that Canad'uns are like Australi'uns, ie really lazy.  So instead of a forum post, or real debate, we get a TWITter - and I'll just bet it is hilarious and highly entertaining....

Youre livìng in a hippy commune on Gabriola island, arent you? Lol. Well, for one we were federally ordered to self quarantine. We we're also federally ordered to follow the six foot guideline with penalties for offenders. No clustering. Relief checks delivered on time as advertised. 2000.00 a month if your out of work due to Covid-19. My o my, the list just keeps growing. Sure, we've had our delays, but our stats back up the fact that Canada acted much swifter, and more decisively with unity in mind than the U.S did. That's the facts Jack. Are you sure you live in Victoria? The most liberal city in Canada? You?
