Shooting Rampage In Nova Scotia

Recommended Posts

At least 13 people have been killed, including a police officer, after a 51 yr old man went on a very rare shooting rampage in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia on Sunday. The shooter is also deceased. At times it is believed the shooter had disguised himself as an officer.

This release says 17 are deceased. The shooter also set fire to several homes. News lines say this was just released about 2 hours ago.

As does this one. I think these are both Canadian websites. He also disguised his vehicle.

And people are saying he snapped, no, this was premeditated,  he planned it out.

I agree with you. Especially since he disguised himself and his vehicle. He had to prepare for all of that.

This is so heartbreaking that it happened at all, much less there. Halifax and Nova Scotia is such a beautiful, peaceful area. I've been to New Brunswick but never made it as far as Halifax. It's somewhere I've always wanted to go to see the harbor.

Halifax

Halifax was wonderful, very friendly city, and The Citadel was a lot of fun to see and roam around.

The Titanic cemetery is in Halifax too.

I feel such sorrow for the people in this article that talk about their loved ones who were victims. Heartfelt sympathies for them and the people who live in this small community who are so shaken up by this horrific event. This is the first I've heard of any of the victims.

People from the community who knew the shooter. Whatever could have set this man off like that?

Yes, I got to spend an afternoon chatting with a gal whose parents had personal recall of the bodies washing up and what all went on. I had not known how deep an impact the Titanic had on them until that chat. Many were not identified or else the families did not send for them, so they were buried there. I enjoyed it and I think she was glad to run into someone who was as interested as she was in history.

Police now believe the shooter targeted his first victims before randomly attacking other people. They do not yet know a motive.

I believe in pure evil as a motivator of actions in some of these events.  I just don't see any other possibility.  This man pre-planned the murder of as many of his NEIGHBORS as he could possibly manage.  What is there in a man's mind that could make this seem justified?  It shows an absolute lack of any kind of humanity or empathy.

This may have started out as a domestic incident (JMO). The NY Post is reporting the shooter's first targets were his ex-wife and her new boyfriend. Then he pulled the police officer out of her car and executed her. Police fear the death toll may still rise as he set fire to homes along the way and it's unknown if victims are still in the remains, which burned to the ground.

People who knew him said the shooter was a millionaire who struggled with alcohol.

https://nypost.com/2020/04/20/nova-scotia-shooting-details-emerge-in-gabriel-wortmans-rampage/

Authorities said he drove around that night knocking on residents’ doors and pulling over drivers to find victims.

Given his cop uniform, Wortman’s victims — most of whom were quarantined in their homes because of the coronavirus — “would have trusted him’’ enough to open the door, a source told the Sun.

Portman set fire to five abodes and some vehicles as he murdered people in a 30-mile radius more than an hour north of Halifax, authorities said. He also set his own house on fire, police said.

He carjacked several other vehicles in a bid to elude cops, officials said.

so are we gonna see tougher gun laws, longer wait times, and outlawing of gun types used in this shooting, as well as confiscating those already in possession?

I just can't fathom how anyone could plan out and do this.  So many people just because they happened to be there.   Just so sad for the survivor's families

The big question is why there was no phone alert issued. There was plenty of time. Could have potentialy prevented numerous deaths.

Once you put the faces and details of victims together the situation gets even worse. So many sensles deaths because of one a-whole. I hope he does not get a propper burial.

Tougher gun laws, sounds like a yes.

A Canadian official has said these shootings started with an argument between the shooter and his girlfriend.

https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/canada-mass-shooting-erupted-argument-official-70322989

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia later said they “will provide a detailed account of the incidents" at a news conference on Friday.
