Trump shoots down all immigration with EO

Let's see how long it takes for the Left to go judge shopping even in light of the USSC siding with executive power to control harmful immigration policies.  Hopefully, the court will summarily toss it back in their shill judge's face.

Since we are partially in lock down in some segments of the country it seems a good choice at the moment.  We may not have the personnel to process immigrants ATM.   Many countries have closed their borders and airports, it may be a moot point for a while.

If you look at State Department websites, so many flights have been cancelled that they are talking about the possibility of chartering flights to bring American nationals home.

Sadly of course, an American returning from a foreign country can also bring the virus back to the US..

We have no immigrants at the moment. We may take refugees, they will be put into regulated self isolation for 2 weeks but it’s good that we are in a position to shelter at risk people at a time like this.
We have lots of Americans making enquires about immigration. We have a very wealthy American over here in his bunker which apparently we have quite a few wealthy Americans owning over here and we have Neil Gamain the Author over here and enjoying our lock down in paradise. We have a lot of want to be immigrants and they appear to be mostly American.

I fear that Donald Trumps policy is less to protect the American people from the virus than it is to keep the voters happy. It is after all the platform Donald Trump ran on originally and it worked then.

Having said that November is a long way away and I suspect Donald Trump will still make a second term.

Hang on.... Corona Virus is a wee nothing, the sniffles to be ignored lest freedom be lost AND at the same time something so terrible that immigration has to be prevented?

To be fair, illegal immigration was the major part of his platform.

I think this is a good thing at the present time.

I can't believe this wasn't already ordered.  So we haven't been able to do anything except shop for groceries lest we get a really bad cold but they've still been letting immigrants into the country????  How the eF does that make sense?

So if the Left is complaining that this move is political, too bad!  They have no say after holding the relief package hostage just to get things like funding for the Kennedy Center and other non-corona related issues.  At least Trump's move is corona related.  It'll be nice if it is slow to be lifted.

Watch people dispute this because the pork got moved to a separate bill a week later.

We should bear in mind that the Democrats - and the left/liberals - will criticise ANY steps that President Trump takes, regardless. They would prefer that Americans suffer and die, rather than President Trump take any credit for successful policies and actions.

If this is a plan to play to US populist sentiment then its an election winner.

This may be an act to gain support.   I'm not sure.  But either way, it's a good thing to do at this time.

Well OS  how many immigrants have come into the country in the last two months with flights cancelled and borders closed around the world?  Is it something major or just feel good window dressing for the base?    It does make sense for us and legal  immigrants too to put things on hold. We can't even deal with our own problems right now.

In  normal times,  roughly 25% of our doctors are immigrants. Legal immigrants mind.   A good proportion of the grocery store clerks, bus drivers, hair and nail stylists (that folks are so desperate to get back to) food processors, and big box store grass seed salespeople are also  legal immigrants. They are contributing to our efforts to make a great and safe America not hindering them.

It is mostly just that.  It does nothing to address illegal immigration or strengthen our borders.  It does nothing to stop the flow of drugs.

It does nothing to stop Americans coming home from overseas and bringing virus with them and adding to the second wave of infections.

It is not going to change any votes.  Winning will take more than the base.

So we don't want to protect the people that are already here or for that matter people that may have come over because it may also serve as "window dressing" during an election season?

I'm, not sure what your point is listing all the various jobs that are done by both immigrants and citizens.  Those people are all here, this measure is to prevent the unknown from coming in.  We don't even have enough resources to test the people here how would we verify we didn't just let in more infected people?  What's our priority?  Containing the disease and limiting the spread of infection.  That's precisely what this aids in.  Not everything is automatically bad because trump.

Beta's response to President Trump's temporary immigration ban EO

..btw, he was once considered Democrat Presidential candidate :D

Who the **** do you think is working on the farms and feed lots, in the packing houses and processing plants at a time where we are struggling to feed ourselves? Who is in the kitchen? Who is picking, preparing, serving the food we eat and cleaning up afterwards?

Wow Beto, They're in your kitchen preparing your food and cleaning your mess huh?  Maybe the rest of us didn't get the memo to appreciate our servants.  My goodness if Consuelo didn't nurse me from her bosom I don't know what I'd do.  What an idiot he is.

Evidently, still too many.  During a pandemic, there should be no migration allowed PERIOD!  People shouldn’t be travelling right now unless absolutely necessary.  It’s not just flights but border crossings.

Is it something major or just feel good window dressing for the base?

Why can’t it be both?  We need both!  During this time, the public needs lifelines thrown to them.  This not only limits the spread of contagion; it also gives the public a boost.  The public needs to see the government being a leader in the war on this virus.

It does make sense for us and legal  immigrants too to put things on hold.

If we did it smartly, we wouldn’t have needed to shutdown much of what was.  And for the record, “legal immigrant” usually refers to someone already here and naturalized or with a green card and very close to becoming naturalized.  I.e., they belong here.

We can't even deal with our own problems right now.

Who can?  But we don’t need to deal with other people’s problems too right now.

In  normal times,  roughly 25% of our doctors are immigrants. Legal immigrants mind.

Which means they belong here.  Are there that many legal, naturalized immigrants that are stuck abroad right now?  Having problems trying to return home?

A good proportion of the grocery store clerks, bus drivers, hair and nail stylists (that folks are so desperate to get back to) food processors, and big box store grass seed salespeople are also  legal immigrants. They are contributing to our efforts to make a great and safe America not hindering them.

Again, if they are legal then they belong here.  They are already part of the workforce.  All citizens are having problems keeping their jobs.  And still, a majority of natural-born work those jobs.

It is mostly just that.  It does nothing to address illegal immigration or strengthen our borders.  It does nothing to stop the flow of drugs.

The immigrant ban is really about illegals and those that don’t belong.  Legal immigrants, which can also be considered as naturalized citizen, are exempt from the ban.  By putting more restrictions on illegal immigration, also begins to stop more drugs from crossing.

It does nothing to stop Americans coming home from overseas and bringing virus with them and adding to the second wave of infections.

Aren’t those returning home, quarantined for 14 days?

It is not going to change any votes.  Winning will take more than the base.

It will make it easier to change minds.  But as far as the base, Trump brings a different dynamic.  You either support Trump or you don’t.  Those that support him is his base.  His base is constantly growing.  A better division is between those that don’t mind being identified as a Trump supporter and those that would rather not advertise that fact.  When cornered, they will deny it.

Nah, you see our borders are closed because we accept (a small number of d********s not withstanding) that Covd-19 is a plague and we need to raise the drawbridge.

your fellow Americans including your elected president, seem to think it’s nothing to worry about unless it enables them to push forward a pet project.

Huh.  We have a problem with legal immigrants coming in during a pandemic and stealing jobs when we are looking at double digit unemployment rates.  Who knew?

I wonder how they have been getting into the country with all those cancelled flights and the Canadian and Mexican border being closed to non-essential traffic.  https://techcrunch.com/2020/03/20/u-s-closes-mexican-border-to-all-non-essential-travel-due-to-coronavirus-crisis/

Maybe they are getting here with magic?

Regardless, it is a good thing that Trump is focusing on this instead of other paltry matters like the Coronavirus or the Oil price collapse.

<sarcasm>

So forever?

On a side note- pity no one remembers the olden days where we called people who immigrated here legally, "Americans" after they finished the process.
