UM-Bot Posted April 27, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2020 A new hypothesis has put forward the notion that our universe may be self-simulating itself into existence. https://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/news/336668/are-we-a-product-of-a-self-simulating-universe 2
zep73 Posted April 27, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2020 Yup, the evidence is hard to keep denying, but this is just a bad excuse to keep the universe fundamental to existence. It's basically what Tom Campbell is saying, and I don't agree with his semi-spiritual approach.
RoofGardener Posted April 27, 2020 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) Hmm.. a Los Angeles theoritical physics institute. That's in California, isn't it ? Nuff said Edited April 27, 2020 by RoofGardener
L.A.T.1961 Posted April 27, 2020 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2020 I much prefer a straight computer simulation to this. 2

What they are trying to do, is to ádmit what the evidence tell us, while clinging to their own relevance. The main reason for the great opposition this theory meets, is that very few people likes to be reduced to some algorithm in someone else's computer. They can't accept that they don't truly exist.

Then it all comes down to who wrote the programs for reality. Lovely a new religion is born. Praise be unto the Great Programmer.

papageorge1 Posted April 27, 2020 #16 Share Posted April 27, 2020 To me, this sounds like a positive upgrade to the computer simulation model. As an Advaita (non-dual=God/Brahman/Consciousness and the universe are not-two) school follower this makes increasing sense. The universe is a great play/drama of Consciousness/Source. Here is a concise way of showing the fundamental difference with materialism. Materialism: Matter is primary and consciousness is a derivative of matter Advaita/Pantheism: Consciousness/God/Brahman is primary and matter is a derivative of Consciousness

It's just a very cool algorithm. Attention gives rise to "matter", which is really just pixels, or voxels.
