I wouldn't vote her in for my local Wastewater & Public Works supervisor. The fact that twit is a US Congress person is one of the more mind boggling occurrences in recent political history.

Probably because her district was tired of the reprobate she replaced.   I am guessing there was no one better to vote for.  (which is quite common lately).

  Well, I have had  jobs where that was expected and when I was young I did it but I got smart and  explained to one group of managers why it was wrong for them to expect it.  The management team was a lot younger than me.  I could work 70 hour weeks at my current job and my boss does, but I am too tired and I wouldn't do it 15 years ago so I don't now.

She isn't the only Democrat in Congress who is exhibiting insanity these days.  Hoyer, the number two in the House says they'll reopen the House when the NEXT multi trillion dollar giveaway is ready to vote on.  These people seem to have lost their frikken minds.  This time around they want money for Broadway and the arts as well, apparently, as billions for states in financial trouble due to their own policies (Cali and NY).  Are they actually TRYING to collapse our economy and cause a loss of faith in the dollar?  I can't imagine any better, quicker way to do it.

I won't testify to her intelligence, but she may be talking more from the bottom end of the economy than the top. Most people are going to have to go back to work regardless of whether they feel like it or not.  

But consider our circumstances.  For nearly the last decade we have been in a bull market, no argument that times have been good.  Before the housing bubble times were also good.  Yet middle class wages have been pretty flat and the middle class has been shrinking as jobs have been automated, downgraded, or shipped overseas. If you are a baby boomer, chances are good your kids will not be as financially stable as you are.

And yet wealth in America has been generated at a very good rate really since WWII ended, 70 years ago.  Where has it been going?  We saw the rise of the middle class after the war and now we see it shrinking.  We saw big box stores and mega corporations replace a lot of the mom and pop stores and regional chains.  How many local banks are left, how many local supermarkets?

Project that trend out a generation or two to your kids and grandkids.  What does it look like?  Gig economy, part time jobs with no benefits, health care out of reach, that hardly seems like the description of a great America.

Now before andthen gets excited, I am not advocating any more bailouts for businesses or individuals.    For the government to print more money and bail out people and cut taxes again leads nowhere good.

But then, how much freedom will our grand kids have if their ability to earn a share of the wealth this economy generates grows less and less?

There are no "shares of wealth". That would imply that wealth is limited. And AOC is a numbskull. She's like the Kelly Bundy of politicians.

@Tatetopa I hear you, but who do we blame for big corporations crushing the little guy. I was not pleased one Christmas when I received a kindle as a gift. I knew what would happen to my beloved book store and yet over time I and many others made the choice to buy ebooks. People went to Walmart as they drove right past mom and pop. I myself was screwed out of a well paying career when NAFTA was signed by the traitor Clinton but had he not my phone would have cost thousands instead of hundreds. You can’t fight progress.

And if nobody goes back to work their unemployment dries up, businesses fail, taxes aren't paid. Where does she think money comes from when the government keeps crushing the incentive to produce? If they kill the incentive to work and I can't hire people I'll downsize, work under the table and not pay my taxes. My income will be the $2k a month they want to give us and I'll stash it all in Wall Street. Cause, effect, irony...

I still buy real books. A lot of time book stores have sales and I also found a great place to buy used books in really good condition for $3-4 and I can get 3 or 4 shipped for .99. I just like holding a book in my hand and if I fall asleep reading, which I do a lot, I'd rather hear bang instead of crunch. lol

Is it progress or do we just call it that to make ourselves feel better?  It is a trend, and in some ways, you can at least buck it..  Never shop at Walmart for example.  Put your money in a regional bank or credit union, not in Wells Fargo or Citibank.  Pay with cash or debit card whenever possible.  It is not just your expense, the merchant pays a % too for accepting Visa cards.

Is our economy healthier or more robust when Tyson and a couple of others pack all of our meat instead of a hundred regional companies?

If there was a silver lining to all of this, it might be a reset to diversify,  away from some of the conglomerates.  We could do more with anti-trust laws if we chose that path as  Teddy Roosevelt  did.  For example, Google and Facebook are tendering offers for Zoom.  If one of them buys it, Zoom will not improve.  Employees will get laid off, the customers will not be better served.  Google or Facebook will just acquire another profit stream and eliminate a competitor.   I do admit, it looks pretty dismal.

AOC is a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a puzzle. 

She isn't some indoctrinated socialist/marxist ideologue. She studied economics and international relations at university , and in her private life fully understood privation, and the need to make money to survive, for both herself and her mother. 

And yet, she comes across as somebody who WANTS to destroy the economic system, and who believes that money grows on trees.
