Chinese and Indian troops clash at the border

Dozens of Indian and Chinese soldiers have exchanged physical blows in a clash on the shared border, Indian media report.

Seven Chinese and four Indian troops were injured, an army official reportedly said, near the Naku La sector in the border state of Sikkim.

Local commanders spoke and resolved the dispute, which took place on Saturday.

The two countries have competing claims over their shared 3,400 kilometre (2,100 mile) border.

Sometimes stand-offs involve chest-bumping, pushing and shoving, and throwing stones at each other, BBC South Asia Editor Anbarasan Ethirajan reports.

The latest tense face-off took place near the Naku La sector in Sikkim, more than 5,000 metres (16,400ft) above sea level in the Himalayas.

China and India fought a war over the border in 1962.

In 2017, the two countries also clashed in the region after China tried to extend a border road through a disputed plateau.

Though both countries send out patrols that often engage in physical stand-offs, no bullet has been fired over the border in the last four decades.

That would evolve into grabbing each other's bicycles. :unsure2:

Hmmm, tensions are actually starting to heat up.

This might be escalating to stuff that's not so funny anymore.

'All-out combat' feared as India, China engage in border standoff

Indian media says thousands of Chinese troops are believed to be inside the Indian territory along the de facto border.

About 80 to 100 tents have sprung up on the Chinese side, and nearly 60 on the Indian side, the Reuters news agency reported based on information from the Indian officials.

At least 10,000 PLA soldiers are now believed to be camping on what India claims to be its territory - Pangong Tso Lake, Galwan Valley and Demchok in Ladakh, and Nathu La in Sikkim, according to the Indian media reports.

China and India dislike each other nowadays.

Historically,  When China was religious, China and India both stayed well.

However Now China is materialistic Communism, which denies all god and mystery,

India becomes their Rivals. because Chinese Gov follows materialism!

This has now escalated to thousands of troops on the border with military leaders meeting today to try and smooth out the dispute

Quote

Indian and Chinese military commanders met Saturday to try to resolve a bitter standoff along their disputed frontier high in the Himalayas where thousands of troops on both sides are facing off.

The meeting at a border post was attended by senior commanders and was the highest-level encounter so far. Local border commanders held a series of meetings in the past month but failed to break the impasse.

On Friday, Indian and Chinese foreign ministry officials discussed the border tensions

3 Indian soldiers now killed on the border during a clash.

Some reports say it was all hand to hand. and possibly challenge fights, which soldiers on both sides would get punished for.

In Xinjiang you can challenge someone and if someone gets killed that's on them. But if your a soldier you could get a disciplinary action for duels.

"Even if tensions rise and tempers fray, they would do well to remember that they have to continue to manage their differences in a grown-up way because armed clashes and military combat can have extremely serious repercussions for the stability of the region going beyond the ambit of the purely bilateral relationship between the two countries,

Why should they have to remember this?  No one else is bothered by it these days.

Apparently the amount of killed Indian soldiers has increased to 20 with the potential for it to go higher, no idea of amount wounded.  For China was hearing rumors of atleast 5 dead and 11 injured but the Chinese government doesnt seem to be releasing figures and just saying there has been casualties.  ANI is claiming at least 43 Chinese casualties.

Reports of India moving aircraft and warships to forward bases now along with rumors that the Indian army along the LAC has been given emergency powers to combat Chinese aggression.

According to US News 35 Chinese were killed in the fighting including a senior officer.

Will be interesting to see if India and China can still walk this back from the brink or if it's already went past the point of no return.

Xi and his gang seem intent on using force to get their way in the world.  If this is the pattern then maybe it's best that they miscalculate and jump before the PLA are ready.  They will soon learn that intimidation doesn't work well with everyone :tu:

Information about the clash that saw 20 Indians killed and a unknown amount of Chinese killed was apparently a rather large fight.  Over 600 people involved armed with rocks, metal rods, and other makeshift weapons fighting for atleast 6 hours in the dark.  Seems most of the Indian dead were from soldiers falling/pushed off of a mountain ridge into a river.

It's interesting to me how they respect the no firearms agreement while at the same time literally killing each other with pipes.

This may be inappropriate to say, but when I heard of this event and how it went down I immediately thought of KungFu movies.
