Guest Br Cornelius Posted May 23, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2020 (edited) What's most significant is that the Mirror did a sting with their second report which proves Cummings lied about his activities. So breaking the law is one thing but proof that he lied to cover his activities is the nail in his coffin. He has also got Downing Street to lie in denying the reports of his activities. He has also contradicted the Durham police force which is another lie. Discuss. Be Cornelius Edited May 23, 2020 by Br Cornelius
L.A.T.1961 Posted May 23, 2020 #2 Share Posted May 23, 2020 TV News tonight have an updated account from local police. They say they were contacted by Father of Dom and he told them what was going on. The police took no action and reminded family of movement rules. Police could have charged Dom then and there but nothing was done. Difficult to see how this story is going to run much further.
Guest Br Cornelius Posted May 23, 2020 #3 Share Posted May 23, 2020 Repeated lying to the media and making ministers lie on his behalf. This is political dynamite. Cummings is hated by backbenchers and many have already told the whips to p*** off. Be Cornelius

TigerBright19 Posted May 23, 2020 #7 Share Posted May 23, 2020 From what I can gather from reports: March 27th - PM and Hancock test positive for virus. March 30th - Downing Street confirms that Cummings has developed symptoms and will self-isolate at home with his family. It is assumed that he will stay at his London home. March 31st - Cummings drives 260 miles with his family to his father's home in Durham. Downing Street claims this was acceptable because they were driving to Durham so that his father could take care of the child in the event that both parents become incapacitated and unable to look after their child. April 12th - Self-isolation ends and he is seen walking into town by a riverside. April 14th - Cummings drives back to London and returns to work. April 19th - Cummings drives 260 miles back to Durham to pick up family and they are seen walking by a beauty spot. End result. MPs call for his resignation?

Br Cornelius What if he asked the PM for permission to stay in Durham and the PM gave him the green light? Theory - If his boss gave him permission to do something wrong, does that still make it wrong, or does the fault and responsibility rest with the person who gave him permission to go there? His father telephoned the police and made them aware of the journey. There must have been some form of procedure involved that gave Cummings the green light as he would be in continuous communication with his political officials while self-isolating in Durham. The PM cannot arbitrarily change the rules, he is not above the law - this is a bizarre line of reasoning. His wife claimed that he couldn't even get out of bed when he drove to Durham - which in of itself makes his actions driving recklessly with the potential to endanger others. There is also the fact that his story doesn't stack up - he went to Durham in case he and his wife couldn't look after his child - who was also likely a carrier of Covid-19 - so that his 70 year old parents could look after the child whilst they were incapacitated, which put the most vulnerable individuals in his parents at direct risk, which is exactly the group the lockdown is meant to protect. Everything he did is against the spirit and the letter of the Law's which were passed to protect the country. The government can and does give exemptions from lockdown rules. I was able to travel the length of the country in the first week of lockdown to get to work after a very unfortunately timed holiday. That said, not remotely convinced an exemption would be granted for someone with symptoms to travel to visit family...

What likely happened was that the PM and Hancock were in the process of self-isolating and the transition of their work onto others probably resulted in a short spell of chaos and a breakdown in communication within the cabinet for a short time and this is when Cummings requested to go to Durham to spend his isolation there and to allocate his official duties and workload onto some other official, and during the chaos that was happening at the time he may have received an 'unofficial' green light and a brief confirmation phone call from a low ranking civil servant who had misunderstood what he said and did not realize that Durham was not his primary residence and when Cummings told this official of his plans and the 100 other things he needed done during his isolation, Cummings just got a brief response from somebody in a panic and they said to him "Yes, that will be alright, I will let the PM and the police know you are self isolating in Durham", and within half an hour Cummings had got into his car and was on his way. L.A.T.1961 Posted May 23, 2020 #15 Share Posted May 23, 2020 I expect if Dom is removed then the Labour party will take another look at the Kinnock police incident and remove him? The police did actually warn Kinnock that his actions were not essential travel. Unlike Dom. - "South Wales Police censured Kinnock for paying the visit (to his parents) shortly afterwards, Replying on Sunday to the Labour MP's tweet, the force said: "Hello @SKinnock we know celebrating your Dad’s birthday is a lovely thing to do, however this is not essential travel. We all have our part to play in this, we urge you to comply with @GOVUK restrictions, they are in place to keep us all safe." I guess the labour inquiry into this is top secret . https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/stephen-kinnock-neil-south-wales-police-labour-mp-twitter-a4401186.html

It just makes them calling for him to resign look even more foolish. Notice how the "media" harassing him outside his home are not keeping to the 2 meter rule.

L.A.T.1961 Posted May 24, 2020 #23 Share Posted May 24, 2020 UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will lead today's coronavirus press conference. I think if Dom is still in post after this afternoons press conference then his job is probably safe.
