India detains pigeon on suspicion of spying

Recommended Posts

Still Waters

An intrepid Pakistani ‘spy’ pigeon is facing a life behind bars in India.

The allegation was made after Geeta Devi, a resident of the Kathua district of Indian-administered Kashmir, reported a bird - painted pink and carrying a coded ring tagged to its foot - flew into her home on Sunday night.

The Indian Border Security Force passed the pigeon on to the police, who launched an investigation and logged the animal as a ‘Pak Suspected Spy.’

Officials in Kathua said the bird had flown across the border and they would try to decipher the message.

The Indian border security force ordered police to grill the pigeon.  A police spokesman later  stated...  " we obtained no information from the pigeon, but, it was delicious."

Extremist groups do do this.

Quote

The pigeon, suspected to have been trained in Pakistan for spying, has a ring with alphabets and numbers written on it,” a police source told the Times of India.

“Though birds have no boundaries and many fly across international borders during migration, a coded ring tagged to the captured pigeon’s body is a cause for concern as migratory birds don’t have such rings.”

It's funny that with all the technology we have that a note with paper and a pigeon can still be effective.

It's how the British SAS works. Low tech.

I think that's how the Rothchilds got word of Napoleans defeat at Waterloo before anyone else did.   A pigeon across the channel.  Rothchilds began selling stock, which made Many think Napoleaon had won... . But then, Rothchild bought up the ensuing panic selling and made a fortune. $$$$$$$

Wrong cartoon.

While we're at it, that comment about how " a coded ring tagged to the captured pigeon’s body is a cause for concern as migratory birds don’t have such rings.” caught my attention. Have the Indians never heard of bird banding?

Pink doesn't exactly seem like an unobtrusive color for a spy pigeon either. On a hunch I googled Dyed Pigeon:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/pink-racing-pigeon-leduc-alberta-1.5156285

Add to that the fact that it's common, prerequisite in fact, for racing pigeons to be banded, said bands bearing a code of letters and numbers.

Don't laugh. Pigeons ate this woman in rome in less than 10 minutes as other pigeons waited for other tourists.

'The bird is free': India 'releases Pakistani pigeon held on spying charges'

According to The Times, intelligence personnel were trying to decipher numbers on a small ring tied around the bird's leg, in case it happens to be a coded message for militants in the region.

But the man who came forward to claim the pigeon, named as Habibullah in Pakistani media, said the numbers were merely his phone number.
