How would mankind handle an alien invasion ?

On the basis that any alien invaders are almost absolutely certain not to be as useless, incompetent, self centered and corrupt as those we currently, freely, choose to elect to control us, I would welcome our superior alien overlords.

If they mean us harm, we'd all die, that's how. Does anyone think that if a civilization who is so much more technological advanced than us that they can traverse light years of interstellar space, decides to take our planet, that we could stop them? Real life is not a Hollywood film, folks, and Will Smith is not going to save us from beings thousands, or millions or years more technologically advanced than us. We'd stand as much chance as an anthill against the combined forces of the US military would.

We had the chance to pull together for covid and failed.  We had nurses travel to help with Ebola outbreaks and lie about exposure to come home and expose the public here and in England.  I don't have faith that humans would pull together if hostile aliens showed up.

It's actually difficult to come up with any logical reason why an alien species would deliberately come all the way to this obscure backwater of the galaxy just to kill us.   

Unless a) they were really nice, charming, polite folk who wrote the sort of songs that would make Paul McCartney green with envy, and just happened to also be totally, utterly and unstoppably xenophobic to the extent of havng only one goal in life; to destroy all other life whatever and wherever it is.   Or b) they needed to build a hyperspace bypass.

Anyone remember the movie They Live? Why not first learn about ur enemy, then manipulate and infiltrate everything. Certainly they're aware money buys power. Also with technological advances beyond our comprehension, wouldn't this seem possible? Rise to different positions of power then take over. What would they gain from just showing up, bombing, destroying all our resources anyway.

Why would we need a cold? The death rate for aliens from Covid19 is 100%. We just don't let them have the vaccine.

I'm reminded here of the film, Independence Day.  As many of you will know, it is about an alien invasion on earth.  And the film is unintentionally very funny.  This because the Americans are totally unable to read the aliens' intentions.  

Now, if aliens arrived unannounced in gigantic, black spaceships and, without any preamble whatsoever, stationed those spaceships above major world cities, wouldn't you feel nervous?  Wouldn't you feel threatened?  Wouldn't you think the aliens' intentions, far from being friendly, are actually extremely hostile?  In the film, the Americans cannot decide the intentions of the aliens and therefore send out a Welcome Wagon to find out.  The Welcome Wagon, predictably, gets atomised.  It is only after this incident that the Americans decide that the visitors are hostile.

Well, I think something equally idiotic might happen if there really was an alien invasion.  (Presupposing the existence of aliens in the first place.)
