spartan max2 Posted June 5, 2020 #76 Share Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) Moral of the story we all have second hand knowledge of Hong Kong because none of us currently live there . And even if someone did it's not like that would solve much. Take a handful of 50 Americans and they will each have a unique perspective on the U.S. However with the internet we all have endless access to people, videos, photos, and articles that are from Hong Kong. (Unless of course you live in China. Then your access is limited by the Great Fire Wall and authoritarian levels of censorship) Edited June 5, 2020 by spartan max2 3 1 Top

spartan max2 Posted June 5, 2020 #84 Share Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) Just a reminder, that despite our individual expierences, the 2019 elections in Hong Kong clearly illustrated that Hongkongers support the protesters. It was a landslide victory for pro-democracy candidates. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Hong_Kong_local_elections The extradition bill was successfully removed by Hong Kong legislators. Which is probably why we now see China saying **** it. They know the lost public opinion. They passed a law to take away Hong Kongs legal autonomy without allowing Hong Kong to have a say in the matter. Hence the OP. This is why the U.K is opening up Visa's. Hong Kong is no longer able to protect their rights with the new act by China. Edited June 5, 2020 by spartan max2 1 2 1 Top

However, this will now allow them to apply for two periods of 30 months' leave or five years' leave to remain in the UK, and then eventually become full British citizens. Also, **** China. You're embarrassing yourself. Stop being so horrible and people won't want to leave. Quote Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in May that all British National (Overseas) - or BNO - passport holders "are Chinese nationals" and the move would "violate international law". However, Ms Patel said on Wednesday that the offer meant the UK was "keeping our promise" to Hong Kong residents "to uphold their freedoms". 1 Top

Eldorado Posted January 31, 2021 Author #97 Share Posted January 31, 2021 Hong Kong residents can apply from Sunday for a new visa offering them an opportunity to become British citizens after Beijing’s imposition of a national security law in the Asian financial hub last year. Eldorado Posted February 7, 2021 Author #99 Share Posted February 7, 2021 300,000 'rich' settlers from Hong Kong to come to UK They will settle across the length and breadth of the country and not just focus on London, experts say. The bulk is expected to consist of educated professionals with young families who, because of Hong Kong's high standard of living, will come with a certain amount of capital behind them. "Expect them to settle in Brighton, Greater Manchester, Sheffield, Leicester Liverpool and even Bristol,' said Evan Fowler, founder and director of a Hong Kong media platform, who has been forced to sever all ties with the business because of Hong Kong's draconian national security laws. Eldorado Posted March 20, 2021 Author #100 Share Posted March 20, 2021 The number of people planning to move to the UK from Hong Kong has accelerated as Beijing intensifies its clampdown on the former British colony. Downing Street said 27,000 Hongkongers have now applied to a visa scheme which opened at the end of January, offering a route out of the Asian city. Reports last month suggested only 5,000 people applied for the visa in the first two weeks of the programme.
