I was just watching the news and they are reporting that the time span between exposure, infection and illness is measured in weeks. These cases will still take a while to start showing up. The number of cases will rise more. What we're seeing now is the young I'm going out for the summer beach and bar crowd. Barely a month into lockdown California and Florida was going out in herds. What's happening now is being reflected there.

Agreed. I went to Wildwood two weeks ago. All the hotels just reopened. The beach open at about 25-50% capacity. Boardwalk was open but rides and many stores still closed. The hotel staff told me everyones comming down, just doubled rate. I think boardwalk/beach at full capacity would be disastrous right now. If there's a spike we may not know for weeks.

Morey's Pier in Wildwood and Atlantic City casinos will open July 2, in time for the 4th of July holiday. On June 22 hotels went to full capacity.

That's all you can think about?

What on earth makes you think that is my only thought????  Wow, talk about ludicrous ad hominems..  Look, I know that the performance of your superhero at the moment, and poll numbers etc, etc, are all probably getting you down, but next time, if you have a criticism of what I post BE SPECIFIC and debate the topic, or tell me what I have suggested that is bad advice....

It just never ceases to amaze me how much people really think Trump can pull off all by himself in a week. Who seriously didn't know these spikes were going to happen?

We didn't have them here..  There's been a small and localised uptick in one of our states, but the gov't there has moved VERY swiftly with contact tracing and a huge testing effort.  Does that happen in the US? (hint, mostly not), or does Trump just hold rallies and encourage non-mask use and close contact between his supporters, without even a basic temperature test..?  Mmm, good move.

Can you point to where you predicted the extent of this HUGE spike, which is VERY widespread across the US, and why it is OK?  Or is your attitude that nothing bad must ever be spoken about?

Oh well, at least others can learn what NOT to do...

One, you aren't here. Two, read the threads. Three, read the news reports. It was always known these spikes were coming. Four, does it make you feel superior to pick on me? Go ahead.

To be fair Susie did predict it here,as did several others...

Most thought the second wave would hit closer to September-November though myself included, but once we opened up and the way citizens have behaved so irresponsibly from opening days, then onto the riots, and now campaign season...

As you said "at least others can learn what not to do"

To be fairer, this *isn't* the second wave...  I hope you manage to avoid that (likely in 2-4 months or more) but the signs are not good, and with the leader being amongst the most irresponsible people in the US and setting a woeful example, well ... you join the dots.

Thing is, it is NOT one or the other - with sensible rules and a majority of the populace that abide by them, you can go back to almost a normal life, go back to work and save the economy from further damage..  Sure, I'm biased - but that is mostly what I see here in Oz and it's reflected in our numbers.  We have *very* low rates across the country, and yet .. the vast majority of people are still doing the right thing.

Everywhere I go there are reminders, from signs at shop doors, to stickers on the floor with suggested distances, hand sanitising facilities are everywhere, masks are quite common and easy to get hold of - it's really not that difficult, especially if you can escape from the ridiculous view that doing all those things is somehow an indication that you are bowing to the removal of personal freedoms....  Those personal freedoms are apparently that they wish to be free to kill those with weakened immune systems and the over 60's..

Even most Trump supporters here are admitting it is largely a problem with people's behavior..., so just stop listening to your moron president.

Start by wearing a mask, exactly as your president won't - he wants that freedom to kill...

Probably would've been better to not shut anything down. Just give out the precautions and let things go.

Oh man,we have signs EVERYWHERE saying "Stay 6 feet apart,it's the law"...i get up to a counter just a foot away from the sign, and some dumbass will be a foot behind me!...

I'm not afraid to straight up whoop someones ass if they are standing right behind me and either cough or sneeze lol

Dude it's not just people "listening to the moron president",i've been seeing idiots on top of idiots no matter party, color,or sex...

I don't personally want to catch a mild case where i just feel like i'm dehydrated or something,go to a store touching door handles, and along comes someone else who has a loved one in cancer remission and they unknowingly take my germs home and pass them on.

So we are going to act like Australia also isn't have a post lockdown increase ?

No need to be so nationalistic about it, we are all losers in a pandemic.

Obivously the numbers are still pretty low and Australia is doing well but things can change quickly.

There is a whole lots of factors between nation's no need to be aggressive about it.

I don't know where these idiots get their ideas. Grocery and other stores have people counting how many people come in and leave. Places requiring masks. One way in and one way out so they can keep track of who comes in and what they sanitize. Churches are still all closed and most restaurants.

I still make note of those who don't condemn the protesters/rioters coming out in hoards.

What are you complaining about?  Jeez those measures are to keep people safe.  It is required in our state.  No business is allowed to let anyone in without a mask and they can only allow 50% of their capacity.  But businesses are all open again.  Even churches in our state are open as long as they only allow 50% capacity and everyone wears a mask.

Your last sentence is confusing.  Are you against condemning the protestors or for it?

Yes, they are, and we are making a large effort to isolate the hotspots and do very large scale testing in those areas and also do extensive contact tracing - which, I understand, the US generally does NOT do.  And we already have the tools in place, and we have boosted our hospital capacities dramatically in anticipation.

Yes, discussing these things and looking at what works and doesn't work, is ... aggressive.  I'm sooo sorry, I shall stop growling so loudly...  But you'll note that my harsh words are towards those who set bad examples (Trump/Pence etc) and those who try to defend them.

You are arguing with an Australian about conditions in the U.S.   Why bother, you are here and he doesn't have binoculars strong enough or a hill tall enough to see what is really going on here.  We haven't close the borders of every state like they have in Australia, of course, except for the big cities, their numbers are lower, so is their population.

As I tried to clarify, my experience is that this happens only very rarely in Oz.  It doesn't need to be like that - and when you have a leader who makes light of it, doesn't wear a mask and sets up environments like rallies where the distancing rules are flaunted and where ignoring those rules is made into a symbol of 'freedom'... then I have to observe that something is broken....

Something's broken alright:

The Trump administration is expected by Thursday to file a legal brief urging the Supreme Court to strike down ObamaCare, even as coronavirus cases climb across the U.S. and soaring unemployment forces millions off employer-based health plans.

Yes, they are.  Many, many, many times less than those in the US, even when you do it on a per capita basis or add in lots of fudge factors about how our demographics work...  To me, rather than rant on about how easy we have had it, I think it's worth discussing the differences in what the population is doing that is keeping those numbers way down here, and way UP there.

Are you perhaps suggesting that Ozzies are acting cowardly and being overly compliant, and losing freedoms?  Because it seems to be a repeating meme, as demonstrated by your pres who won't wear a mask (even when he visits a mask factory and causes them to have to throw out a whole pile due to his potential contamination of them)...  And then we see folks being interviewed after attending a Trump rally and saying how they proudly didn't socially distance, and don't wear masks as they are a symbol of lack of freedom, or the whole thing's a hoax...  Sure, some of it is media beat up, but not all...

Yes, we have an elected Prime Minister.  He's dead set boring, as is our politics.  He's from the opposite side of my political spectrum, but he's done the right thing on the virus, and so have our State Premiers (like your Governors).  And our population has pretty much accepted the pain of the initial lockdowns (mostly now gone) and rules - most importantly in my opinion, we started the social distancing and sensible hygiene practices early, and pretty much universally.  There is little argument about what has been done to date, as it seems to have worked, with just a few minor exceptions.  We feel safe...

I'm not suggesting any thing except that it is silly to compare what is going on in the U.S. with what is going on in Australia.  I mentioned one thing you all are doing that we will not do (though it would have made sense back in March) and that is closing the state borders.  I cannot deign to know anything about anything going on in your country and I think you make assumptions about what is going on here.  Yes, we have some areas or states that are more concerned with business as usual than health but that is not the whole picture.  Just like you can't compare anything going on in Sydney to what is going on in Port Headland.

It annoys me, and I have expressed this before, you all sitting thousands of miles away making judgements on our government, people and president and most of you have never been anywhere in the U.S.  You can't judge the country by what the media gives you.  It is only part of a skewed story.  As for numbers, and statistics, that is not the whole story either.

Our countries' responses to the pandemic stand in marked contrast to the political partisanship there in the US. The partisan consensus and extensive cooperation between all levels of our governments speak to a prioritisation of the health and well-being of its citizens and a regard for human life.

So whilst we may be boring, we're the furthest thing from 'awful'.
