It's visible on Google Earth, just west of the town's south-west corner.

But can anyone give an explanation when you zoom further out there are so many holes in the ground? It looks more like the surface of the moon with all the craters.

Due to global warming the Siberian permafrost thaws, leaving a holes in the ground.

Just lakes. There's no permafrost there, BTW.

"Small plantation on edge of small town" would be a more accurate description ;)  

As for the topography, I must admit I thought melting permafrost until I saw where the town is.   Don't know anything about the geology of that area of southern Siberia ..... :unsure2:
