He was reputed to have been delivered by Caesarian Section, hence the name for the procedure which always killed the mother. However, his mother is recorded to having delivered him normally and lived quite a long time. Surely there were some chemists at that time who could have mixed chemicals, even gun powder into some sort of cotton ball which then with the help of catapults must have been thrown and exploded over the pompeys camp.
