What is wrong with people? I sincerely hope they get punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Yeah... umm... the bit about "no face masks" might have been SOMEWHAT irrelevant, as they also had no tickets ?

In another report they don't mention tickets.

The driver had also asked four other passengers, who were already on the bus without masks, to get off.

The face masks issue still played a big part in what happened to the poor driver.

Let the drivers wear and be trained in the use of a handgun and it will become the thugs who attack him that become irrelevant.  Shoot them dead when they try to beat someone to death.

The bus driver has died.

Quote

A bus driver has died in France, five days after he was attacked by passengers who reportedly refused to wear face masks, his family says.

Philippe Monguillot, aged 59, had been left brain dead after the assault in the south-western city of Bayonne.

"We decided to let him go," his daughter Marie told AFP news agency, saying doctors had agreed.

Two men in their 20s were arrested and charged with attempted murder after the assault late on Sunday.

Two other men were charged with failing to help a person in danger while a fifth man was charged with attempting to hide a suspect.

This is really sad. I cannot understand what drives some people to behave so stupidly and irresponsibly. There was absolutely no need to respond with such violence. Our transit drivers here are now protected from contact with passengers and entry into buses and streetcars is done on the honour system. Given how dangerously some people react to the new guidelines for public safety, such precautions are more necessary than ever.
