Dakota pipeline halted by lower court

The controversial Dakota Access Pipeline has been ordered to suspend production by a US judge, amid concerns over its environmental impact.

The order is a major win for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, which has led the fight against the pipeline.

The ruling demands the pipeline is emptied within 30 days so another environmental review can take place.

Separately, the Supreme Court blocked another controversial oil pipeline from continuing construction.

Judges sided with environmental groups, requiring the Keystone XL Pipeline - which would stretch from the Canadian province of Alberta to Texas in the southern US - to undergo an arduous review before construction can resume.

Both projects were backed by US President Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election after they were blocked by his predecessor, Barack Obama.

Sounds like WONDERFUL news.  They can stop worrying about having to actually work for anything.  Keep those government checks coming, after all, evil old Uncle Sam OWES them.  Let them prosper by their own sweat and ingenuity.  Oh, right... oops...

“The Court does not reach its decision with blithe disregard for the lives it will affect,” Boasberg wrote Monday. “It readily acknowledges that, even with the currently low demand for oil, shutting down the pipeline will cause significant disruption to DAPL, the North Dakota oil industry, and potentially other states."     [...]

The pipeline extends more than 1,000 miles from North Dakota to Illinois – but the issue is the portion of the project that is buried under the Missouri River. The Standing Rock Sioux tribe said a leak will contaminate their drinking water and sacred lands. This story is developing and will be updated.

Nagging spills. Nov. 2019 :

A portion of the Keystone Pipeline in North Dakota was shut down this week after more than 380,000 gallons of oil leaked, the pipeline owner said in a statement.

Meanwhile, environmental groups argue that the spill and the pipeline's volatility is why the separate Keystone XL pipeline should not be built.

YES **** their drinking water and beliefs.

So, you’re against taking the knee, against protests, against activism, and apparently against people using the legal system to achieve things. How exactly should people stand up and be heard?

It reminds me of this video I watched some time ago.

If you are not interested in the review it becomes very relevant to the topic further in.
