I think we need to get rid of the space junk before we build a death star.

I think this bit of chickenhawk stupid cancels out the whole concept of a International Space Station.

Hmmmm...

Quote
N=R_* \cdot f_P \cdot n_e \cdot f_l \cdot f_i \cdot f_c \cdot L
N = number of civilizations with which humans could communicate
R_* = mean rate of star formation
f_P = fraction of stars that have planets
n_e = mean number of planets that could support life per star with planets
f_l = fraction of life-supporting planets that develop life
f_i = fraction of planets with life where life develops intelligence
f_c = fraction of intelligent civilizations that develop communication
L = mean length of time that civilizations can communicate

I'd rather see a moon station than some orbital platform. The moon base would be more functional from a real world perspective.

Drake never studied biology or how the structure of planetary systems affect climate and evolution.

In the Dune and Foundation novels both empires were worried about being attacked by "something else" and in both cases the enemy turned out to be returning humans.

Given that this is a military station, what military advantage is there to a moon base over an orbital station?

Please note that I stated I'd rather see.

Do we really need a military version of the ISS?

I know what you said, I'm just failing to see how it's relevant to the topic.

Don't worry about it. You can delete every comment I've made in this thread if you want.

The article dosen't call is a military base. Only the title is asking that.

Now though, it looks as though the US Space Force is planning to take things one step further by creating and launching an experimental space station which will be capable of supporting a whole range of scientific research endeavours.

The new outpost is being designed as a modification of the existing Shooting Star space transport vehicle which has been in development by the Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) since 2016.

He meant in a peaceful international context.

It sounds more like a satellite rather than an actual space station. Its made from an unmanned resupply module developed for the ISS and is a whopping 15 feet long. Not much of a space station if its that small and have no crew.

Both the US and the Soviet Union toyed with the idea of building manned military space stations, the Soviets actually built one.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almaz They both reached to conclusion that there is nothing military that can't be done as well, and much cheaper, with unmanned space crafts.

What a joke. The US military has equipment in space our enemies only dream of.  Our huge military budget is not only for the equipment you see. Those triangle aircraft that defy gravity are the stuff the US  government lets us and our enemies know about to keep the bad guys guessing.  Most of the "advanced weapon systems" used by our overt military organizations (Army, Marines, USAF, and Navy) are there so the Chinese can steal the plans and make the stuff.  In the next one we'll blow it all up.
