BBC journo uses the N-Word!

Recommended Posts

"Britain's public service broadcaster has come under fire after a news segment featuring an uncensored racial slur was aired on TV.

"In the segment, broadcast Tuesday night on the BBC's "Points West" program, Bristol-based Social Affairs Correspondent Fiona Lamdin used the N-word as she reported on an apparently racially aggravated assault in the southwestern English city.

"As Lamdin described how a healthcare worker was hit by a car, she warned viewers that they were about to hear "highly offensive language."

"She then said assailants had called the healthcare worker "a n-----."

The problem is she could have said "was called the "N" word"  or even "a racially charged expletive".  If someone committing a crime says **** or **** does she repeat that as well?

There are a few words not allowed on UK television in the daytime, except for reports on court/ police/ parliamentary proceedings, but the C-word is banned.

After the 9 o'clock watershed, they can all be used, including the C-word, but not gratuitously.  However, the C-word rarely occurs before 10pm.

There is the possibility the BBC are too blame.

As far as I`m aware its news presenters read off an autocue so one would presume the n word appeared on that. If so they need to review their internal policies for script writing. With it being the BBC its unlikely to be intended racism as they are super PC.

How can it possibly be racism?

What's racist about quoting a phrase used when a crime was committed?

Put it this way, if it had been said in exactly the same context by a Tory MP, the BBC would be camped outside his residence demanding his resignation.

Not if the MP was quoting a phrase from a police report.

To be honest I never use the word, nor ever have, nor hang around with the type of non blacks who do. But It is irritating to hear mostly young blacks call each other that word. You also hear it in a lot of their music. There was a rapper who called a white girl jamming away in the audience upstage to sing one of his songs. But she was forbidden to use the N-word even though it was in his song. The word has really become a joke to me at least. You don't stop racism by constantly using a word associated with it by other races.
