The bodies of five children have been found in an apartment in a German city.

Police said the bodies of three girls and two boys were found in the city of Solingen, near Dusseldorf and Cologne.

Officers said their mother, a 27-year-old, is a suspect.

She jumped in front of a train in Dusseldorf and was taken to a hospital with injuries, they added.

The girls were aged one, two and three, while the two boys were aged six and eight. The mother's sixth child, an 11-year-old boy, survived.

The mother was reportedly injured after throwing herself in front of a train in Düsseldorf at about 13:45 local time (11:45 GMT) and is being treated in hospital under police guard.

A local police spokesman told Bild: "We can't say anything about the motive yet. The mother must be interviewed."

This is terribly sad. So many people suffer from mental illness that goes untreated. These kinds of tragedies happen far too often everywhere.

I was reading about this in my Dutch online news paper this morning. How tragic. So so sad for these poor souls. Can you imagine the pain this eleven year old is going through ?
Unreal.

And then there's people in the world that can't have kids and would do anything to adopt, love and cherish them by giving them a wonderful home to grow up in.

Seriously for a mother (single?) to have 6 kids under the age of 11 at her age of 27, I feel sorry for her and it must've been damn tough.  BUT that said, these children didn't choose to be here, it is not their fault.  Therefore, it's not her choice to take away their lives.  I'm both saddened and disgusted at the same time.  Where on earth was help for her, family, friends, anyone.  This poor 11 year old.  My god, this is tragic, very upsetting and absolutely heartbreaking to read.  :(

The mother should be carried back down to the tracks and thrown in from of about 20 more trains until nothing is left of the witch

It is a tragedy so I think we should be a bit more circumspect before attributing blame. Any number of scenarios could be valid. could there have been another person who killed the 5 children whilst the mother was out who, on return and overcome with grief decided to end her own life? Just one alternative suggestion, as unlikely as it seems. Ritualistic Voodoo-type killings?

I dont know, but would prefer to wait for more details to emerge

Update:

Quote

German prosecutors have said they will charge a 27-year-old woman with murder after five of her young children were found dead at their home in the western city of Solingen.

Heribert Kaune-Gebhardt, a prosecutor in nearby Wuppertal, told reporters that postmortem examinations on the dead children between the ages of one and eight showed signs of sedation and suffocation, but it was still unclear how exactly they died.

The woman sent her mother a message stating that she “couldn’t go on” and cited marital problems with the 28-year-old father of her four youngest children, the investigator said.

“About the motive, we can only speculate that the underlying reason emerged from the broken marriage,” Maierhofer said. “The couple had lived separately for a year.”

These ugly things happen all the time and there is nothing we can do to stop it. There are so many mentally disturbed souls. And they often have children.

Parents should have breeding licences so that legally they are medically, financially and mentally fit for parenthood and if their circumstances change then they should be routinely checked by social workers who can advise and give relevant assistance.  There should have been red flags raised before this happened.  A proper investigation may reveal that the authorities were contacted and nothing was done to check on her homicidal and suicidal mental state.

No, the children are taken into care by responsible adults who will take care of their children until the parents have passed all legal requirements to look after children, just as a child carer is required to have a degree of knowledge before they can look after children.  Sound common sense really.  Children are educated so that they can possess the necessary skills to get employed.  A mother and father should also possess the necessary education to mother and father a child from infancy to mature-hood.  Just as parents with disabled kids are given all the help they need, so to should all parents, especially when children are raised in a broken home.  If absolutely nothing was done to advise the mother what she could do to help her situation, then she may have seen no other alternative than to kill her own children, because in her mind she may have convinced herself that the society she lived in had failed and rejected her, and she had no reason to raise her family in a society that (in her mind) did not care about her or her family.

Maybe you didnt recognized my comment was of a sarcastic nature because your idea/s have a strange smell of regulations in a national socialist fashion.

Thats your very own and subjective impression of the event root cause. As further details about the tragedy haven't been published here in Germany yet, your assumptions are speculation. Nevertheless, to think such tragedies could be prevented by whatever regulations, is naive.

Tragic cases that were preventable usually lead to new laws, regulations and systemic changes within society so that the victims did not die in vain and further incidents can be prevented.  Regulations are an important factor of life within all western progressive societies, and are essential to protect the most vulnerable within each society.  Nothing at all fascist about it.  Children are required by law to attend school / receive a proper education.  The next logical step is that parents should receive some basic level of education to understand how to raise their children in a modern progressive society so that they can be trusted to raise their children properly and to reassure the community that their child will not be taught bad habits and racial prejudices passed down from their grand parents, and will not be exposed to bad influences seen on TV and social media.  Trouble with parents raising kids today is that everyone is exposed to 'everything' online and very little is regulated.
