Scottish Islanders fear 'economic clearance'

Eldorado

Community figures have warned that rising property prices in the Hebrides, Western Isles and Skye are preventing locals from buying a home.

In an open letter they described the situation as akin to an "economic clearance" that was threatening the sustainability of the islands.

They said young islanders could not compete with offers made by buyers from elsewhere in the UK.

Same in parts of cornwall. 'white flight' from London.

We had an old client pop in the office recently, looking to buy a property down here in the west country. Asked him why he was moving down, simple answer, crime in London. His teenage son had been mugged three times recently.....time to get out before it gets worse.

Build more Council Houses!!!!!!

They don't build council houses anymore. The local authorities just blackmail developers to hand a percentage over when built otherwise they won't grant them planning permission.

So to get back the profit they've just lost the developer puts the price of the remaining houses up.....this is one reason why house prices are so high, that and God is not making anymore land.

They just need to pass a bylaw that says that only local people - or close relatives - can buy the houses. I've seen this done in some villages within Nottinghamshire.
