qunaquna Posted September 11, 2020 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2020 Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could help me out id this metal object. It was found in western Serbia, buried in sand in river Velika Morava, near the city of Cacak. It weights about 800g, about 8cm diameter, 10cm height. It appears metal, iron of sort, very rusty and damaged, inside side seems a bit more damaged. Sorry if i missed the right forums. Ps can't upload more than one small pic, it won't allow me
XenoFish Posted September 11, 2020 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2020 (edited) Is it solid or more like a bell? Is there a way you could post the underside of it? Looks like a small bell of some sort. Edited September 11, 2020 by XenoFish
XenoFish Posted September 11, 2020 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2020 Reminds me of this.

acute Posted September 11, 2020 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2020 (edited) I think XenoFish is right, for once, but I think it's cast iron not bronze. An antique handbell. That's my guess, FWIW. Edited September 11, 2020 by acute
HandsomeGorilla Posted September 11, 2020 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2020 I'd guess antique hand bell as well. Pretty cool find!
qunaquna Posted September 12, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted September 12, 2020 Hey thanks for replies. It's pretty solid/thick, bell was my guess also but it kind doesn't resonate much and weirdly thick. It was a typo, river is Zapadna Morava (West Morava). Here's the inside of it. It appears to have a thinner edge, perhaps to be mounted on something, teapot for instance but almost 1kg is a bit heavy for that right?
XenoFish Posted September 12, 2020 #8 Share Posted September 12, 2020 I'm wanting to guess an urn lid, maybe...
XenoFish Posted September 12, 2020 #9 Share Posted September 12, 2020 With the second picture it does look like a lid/top of some kind. You could be right about it belonging to a tea kettle.

I looked up Turkish (Ottoman actually, they ruled these lands for centuries) urns and found some similar, not exactly but similar with similar lids.

Maybe a snuffer top to an incense burner?
