I never knew that's where this "style" came from until I was in alcohol rehab and one of the younger guys mentioned it.  Kind of gross, innit?  Not as bad as another little pearl of wisdom he shared - ever heard of an "upper decker"?  It was at that point that I realized I was WAAAY TOO old to be placing myself in environments to meet people that would do something like that.
