More than 200 naked convicts are on the run in Uganda after they escaped from prison before stripping off and sprinting into the wilderness.

The escapees, who have been described as "hardcore" criminals, abandoned their yellow uniforms to avoid being spotted as they ran into the foothills of Mount Moroto.

Flavia Byekwaso, a spokeswoman for the Ugandan military, has described the area as a "wilderness".

She also warned that the escaped inmates might raid local homes for clothes.
