A package containing the poison ricin and addressed to President Donald Trump was intercepted by law enforcement earlier this week, according to two law enforcement officials.

Two tests were done to confirm the presence of ricin. All mail for the White House is sorted and screened at an offsite facility before reaching the White House.

A US law enforcement official told CNN that investigators are looking into the possibility the ricin package sent to Trump came from Canada.

The FBI and Secret Service are investigating the matter.

It seems the letter was sent from Canada and the suspect is female. It's not the first time this has happened. One was also sent to Obama. Before that, it was anthrax that was being mailed.

JMO...What I've read so far only says the letters were mailed in Canada. No where have they said the woman in custody was Canadian. She may be American and was trying to get back into the US. We'll have to wait and see when the info about her is released.

True, she could be American, but, I would think she would lay low in Canada.  The borders would be watched after the letters went across.

Its very easy to catch you.

First of all the post box you post it in is known. The mail man collected the mail from there, put it into a bag, and the bag contains details of the post box. That goes to an automated sorting centre which prints a code of origin onto each letter. The time shift it was emptied on is also known and also gets printed onto the letter in the code.

If there is CCTV of that post box then they will have a look who posted stuff into it possibly narrowing it down to 100 people on that collection. If there is no CCTV then its at most going to be a few thousand households in the area to investigate.

Next they have a search through their watch lists in that area. Has anybody been searching how to make the stuff? Has anybody been searching other news stories about attacks? Have they searched online to collect the address to mail the letter too? At that stage you are probably caught.

But if not then they look at the letter. Was a printer used for the address and any message inside? Printers basically have fingerprints. The font they print is unique to each one at a microscopic level. They will match it up to the printer model so they know what printer you used. Then have microsoft tell them who has that printer in that area.

Is there DNA or fingerprints on the letter? Tobacco smoke? What type of paper was used, who sells it in that area, who has purchased some? Etc, etc. There is way more that can be figured out which the culprit probably didnt think about when doing this crime.

I`d say they would have figured out who it is within 1-2 days.

The woman's name hasn't been released yet, but according to ABC, she should appear in Federal Court in Buffalo, NY tomorrow. The RCMP are also investigating a home in St Hubert, Quebec saying there is a clear connection between the woman and this residence.

CBS says she was armed when arrested. Her hearing is scheduled for tomorrow at 4 PM and will be in person, not virtual. They also mention the investigation of the home in St Hubert. RCMP say it is unknown if she lived there but is connected to the house. They have not yet said if the woman is a Canadian or an American citizen.
