Enlightenment by virtuous conduct alone...

Suma Varughese meets Rajini Menon, a 47-year-old jnani, who found herself enlightened one fine night, with no previous knowledge of spirituality

Looks like she's enlightened because she says she is.

Going by the rest of the story I'm "enlightened" as well.

It worked for Rey in Star Wars, instant Jedi, no Obi Wan, no Yoda, no nuthin'. I guess the Rani was touched by an angel.

I still see enlightenment as a gimmick.

Perhaps i'm looking at this wrong. I should start a cult. Enlightenment through Nihilism. obtain inner peace through acceptance of your cosmic insignificance. Charge $666.66 per person for a 10 minute talk. Win-win?

You can only prove it to yourself.

Yet it is very, very quick and easy, if there is a difficulty, it is staying in THAT moment. yet with practice, anything is possible.

And you seem to labouring under the impression that having no ego, means no interaction with other folk, which to be quite honest, is completely absurd.

To be fully human, one must remove what isn't real, and abide, spontaneously, from a place of Love, which is GOD, whether one knows that or not.

What does the Buddha, and the Zen Masters have to say about ego?

Zen would offer that “you empty your cup.” and start over. :P

Buddha would suggest that “you don’t believe everything you think”

IMHO

Either I am not doing it properly, or your “GOD” doesn’t actually exist.

Whatever makes you feel special, I guess.

Yeah...

Im going to guess that its the former.

If one really wants to know, become, THAT, then one shall find a way. I know, because it is a lived experience.

So maybe I can help...?

Light a candle, invite GOD into your space, your heart, your mind and soul. Do this with sincerity and GOD shall not refuse.

Stop all thoughts, and just sit like that.

At some point one shall feel a tingling in the pineal gland, maybe the crown chakra will open with a rush of information, sometimes it will feel like a hurricane smashing, and then rewiring every cell in your brain. Ever now and then it feels like a couple of hands pressing upon your head, (something that always makes me smile) and on other occasions its the throat chakra that becomes warm, and then there's the spine tingle, or the whole skin tingle too.....

This presence of GOD can only be known for oneself, but the after affects are quite remarkable.

And this from someone who isn't even a very good meditator.

Although ones desire and yearning is true, and pure enough, it would seem.

And specifically, about the ego?

Hi Crazy Horse

You would likely get the same effect through self hypnosis. You are creating a ritual to us to focus and creating your own imagery.

Well there are three states of being, as far as this one can see..

First, asleep.

Second, awake.

And third, the switch between the first and the second.

Not much of a ritual, just a monumentally minute movement of the mind.

The candle and the invocation may help to begin with, but after some practice, one doesn't need anything.

Hi Crazy Horse

That is because you have conditioned yourself to react to the thought of the ritual

Sure, you know everything about me, from half way around the world.

It isn't me with the big imagination.

But please tell us what the Bu8ddha had to say about the ego..

It reminds of a group of people who want to be filled with God's holy light. Essentially becoming a tool for God's will. In reality they tend to become self righteous pricks.

Darkworkers get **** done.

Well, perhaps you shall take the Buddha seriously?

Quote.

"Ego is just like the dust in the eyes..

Without clearing the dust we cannot see anything clearly,

So clear the ego and see the world."

or

""The ego relies on brute force for strength

The Spirit works always in peace, through wisdom and understanding".

Hi Crazy Horse

Clearing the ego is not killing it it is stripping away all the useless noisy chatter in it.

Ego, ego, Mr Horse.

It could be for any number of reasons..

And, its not egoic if one is simply telling the the objective truth, not if ones intentions are good..
