Actress and 'Defund the police' activist Alyssa Milano was quick to call cops when she believed an armed gunman was on her Bell Canyon property on Sunday morning.

The call ignited a response that included seven Ventura County Sheriffs' vehicles, one K-9 unit, a police helicopter and one Los Angeles Fire Department team that sat down the street on standby.

DailyMail.com has obtained exclusive photos showing the first responders coming to the aid of the 47-year-old at her five bed, six bath, 8,000 square foot, $2.5 million home in the upscale gated community that sits just 20 minutes north of Los Angeles.

Alyssa's tweet appears to be at direct odds with her actions on Sunday when she relied on heavy police presence to protect her

Did you know though, her defund the police campaign was aimed at stoping police from having to deal with issues like drug overdoses, mental health and non violent issues, and allow non police personnel trained in those areas deal with them? I may be wrong, but I thought the idea was the free up police to do police work. She never struck me as the brightest bulb in the room, but if that's true, the allegations might be a little exaggerated. Apparently she didn't make the call, her hubby did. Minor but that's the official story.

Like I say, in not all over the issue, but that's what I read.

So you're saying that it wasn't the message of her campaign? You seem to be lumping people together there.

Well, not if that's what her campaign was actually about.

Do you dislike rich people?

That's exactly what defund the police means. It doesn't mean eliminating the public safety responsibility of the police, it means (as you've stated) divesting funds and reallocating them to non-policing forms of public safety and support (such as social services, youth services and other community-based agencies), thereby easing the burden on police. It serves no one to have their time wasted on duties that are outside their domain (duties which most police officers are ill-equipped to handle anyway).

But as the truth doesn't suit the right's political messaging, they've embarked on a campaign of misinformation because their intention is not to inform, but to cause fear, divisiveness and hate. And, as you can see just from posts on this thread, it's working.

Exactly what I read and have taken to mean stop putting the money into the weaponising the police and put it into other areas of the police which would work in helping situations not escalating them.

I know a lot of people blame mass shootings on a poor mental health system. Funding mental help seems a good idea. It's prevention rather than cure I would think.

What I read was she was one of the "defund the police by 90%" crowd. I guess it depends on what you read. It seems odd that someone who has had stalkers in the past would be on that bandwagon,  but sometimes I think these idiots just say what they think is "popular" for "hits" and never think about the consequences.

Yes, exactly, though I will be honest with you I have never understood Americas fascination and preoccupation with gun ownership.

It's not a good idea.  My reasoning is that when you call the emergency number (in the USA 911) the phone is answered by an operator not expert at anything and not qualified to decide from a distance which emergency responder should go to a scene beyond police, firefighter or paramedic.  I'm sure that police are dispatched every time one of the other two are summoned "just in case".  And just in case for very good reasons such as directing traffic around an emergency situation or because the emergency caller was unaware that one of the people on the scene was having a psychotic episode and is potentially violent or armed with some type of weapon.  If we follow these ridiculous plans to "free up" the police from dealing with things that idiot movie stars or clueless well meaning armatures deem that police shouldn't be involved in there will be a huge number of injured or dead social and mental health workers.  It's just a terrible idea.  Rather than defund the police they need to budget larger amounts of money toward situational training so that police will have better outcomes for them and the citizenry when an unpredictable situation arises.

First, I don't think anyone should care what famous hollywood stars think about anything important.  Like everyone else they have opinion, BUT groups often PAY those people to represent the groups cause.

Second, de-fund the police is a misnomer, from what I understand the goal is to have someone with different expertise accompany the police on certain types of calls (social workers if children are involved, psychologists for suspected psycotic break with a weapon, etc.), it is not a call to de-fund the police, but rather change the funds to accommodate other specialists instead of enhancing and upgrading weapons.

If you only get your news from one source you will always be polarized, emotionally  manipulated and ignorant.

It is a call to defund the police.  The city council here just took $3 million out of the police budget without any clear plan of how to reallocate that money.  Regardless they've been throwing money at the problems with drugs, mental health and homelessness here for decades and the problems just keep getting worse so I don't know why the politicians here think that throwing yet more money will do anything.  When I did drugs it sure wasn't social services that helped me to quit.  The entire well meaning idea is uneducated and a proven loser.

That said we do need to eliminate certain militaristic practices of the police but that doesn't require a budget cut just policy change.

Quick question.  Where was the money supposed to go for the Federal Funds that Trump wants to withhold from Seattle?
