Chick starter grower is food for baby chickens (chicks), just like puppy chow is for baby dogs and kitten kibble is for baby cats. Of course your extra $ was paid for a joke, inside was a man, eating a chicken dinner, as the crowd might get testy after being taken with a ruse the clever talker would soothe it by saying why not trick your friends into seeing it too, which of course brought in more $ for the side show.
