I said that wrong. I should have said Inauguration Day. If Trump is elected and dies before his inauguration, Pence is President for the four years. That article says a lot of things because the Electoral College and the Congress plays a role before the Inauguration. I found this online. It says the President picks his running mate and there is no law stating the VP has to be from the same party. The choice is his.
