Popular Post Still Waters Posted October 3, 2020 Popular Post #1 Share Posted October 3, 2020 The black volcanic sand of Khalaktyrsky beach - one of the gems of the Kamchatka peninsula near its largest city Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - is littered with hundreds of dead sea animals, from deep-sea Giant Pacific octopuses, to seals, sea urchins, stars, crabs and fish. The Pacific Ocean waves, once favoured by local surfers and loved by tourists, now have a strong toxic smell; water colour has a clear yellow tinge. The strongly-bonded community of local surfers signalled trouble with the beach three weeks ago, saying that they had a burning sensation in their eyes, strong headaches, often fevers, throat aches and a feeling of losing eyesight after getting out of the water. Now it emerges that even staying close to the water makes a poisonous effect, posing in pictures of gas masks. https://siberiantimes.com/other/others/news/eco-disaster-at-kamchatka-peninsula-with-mass-death-of-sea-animals-at-precious-pacific-beach/
Jon the frog Posted October 3, 2020 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2020 Phenol ? Damn do a ship sank or spill it ? Phenol can be used to make explosive but the quantity involved for a disaster that large is way more that the use of ammunition for training purpose.. Russia is the largest producer of phenol, bot it's mostly in the south west of the country, not in the region of Khalaktyrsky.

Eldorado Posted October 8, 2020 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2020 A suspected spillage of toxic chemicals on the coast of far east Russia has wiped out almost all marine life on the area’s seabed, scientists have said. Divers who inspected the waters off a 25-mile stretch of Kamchatka peninsula reported that 95 per cent of creatures on the ocean floor were dead; findings they said confirmed fears of an “environmental disaster” with a potentially devastating long-term impact. The pollution was first reported by local surfers, who suffered eyesight problems and apparent chemical burns after entering the water last month. Sea creatures including seals, octopi, starfish and urchins have since washed up dead on the region’s shores. Still Waters Posted October 9, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted October 9, 2020 Suspected toxic waste pollution off Russia's Kamchatka peninsula that caused the mass deaths of marine animals has formed a moving slick stretching 40 kilometres (25 miles) along the Pacific coastline, researchers said Thursday. The Far Eastern Federal University said in a statement the pollution was between 100 and 300 metres (330-1,000 feet) wide in some places, had a green hue and was creating an unusual foam while floating south along the Russian coast. The waste was previously thought to be stationary and confined mostly to one beach, but researchers who carried out aerial photography said it was "gradually moving south" towards the contested Kuril Islands "without diminishing in size". Kirill Vinnikov, the head of a biology lab at the university, also noted that the pollution was not disintegrating and had clear dimensions. https://phys.org/news/2020-10-russian-sea-pollution-massive-slick.html
