Atlantis Explained!

Rojack likes to pretend, at the time of Plato’s alleged Atlantis the sea level was some 60+ meters BELOW current sea level. The following is what that would have looked like:

There would have been nothing recognizable as Tampa during that time.

Try matching Plato’s length, width, and height of the plain to the Plain of Atlantis to the Florida Plain and see what you get. Then try answering the questions below.

Question: Where is the island of Atlantis?

Plato: “And Poseidon, receiving for his lot the island of Atlantis, begat children by a mortal woman, and settled them in a part of the island, which I will describe.”

Answer: Plato used the terms [island, continent, and island-continent] interchangeably. He was referring to North America, Central America, and South America together as a boundless island- continent. North America was what Plato called the island-continent of Atlantis. A small island in the city was also called Atlantis. Knowing that information makes decoding lest confusing. If you can translate Greek to English, you are likely to better understand the languages and the errors Plato made. https://goo.gl/maps/qc5H3vzXhKj86ms38

Question: Where was the city of Atlantis?

Answer: The City of Atlantis and the royal city were on the Atlantis Plain, Tampa Florida.

Question: Where is the small island of Atlantis?

Answer: The small island of Atlantis is in the city of Atlantis. It has three canals around it.  By the way, the small island is triangular, not circular. The canals are also straight, not circular.

Question: Where is the hill that held the royal castle?

Answer: The hill that held the royal castle is in the top righthand corner of the small triangular island. This hill once had three moats around it.

Question: Where is the plain of Atlantis? Answer: The plain of Atlantis is now the Florida Plain. Florida is flat and even, for the most part.

Question: Where is the great ditch Plato described?

Answer: Part of the ditch is now the Indian River.

Try to stop crapping all over Plato’s story in an attempt to make it something Plato never said.

Yeah his made up stuff doesn't follow what Plato said at all:

Quote

and breaking the ground, inclosed the hill in which she dwelt all round, making alternate zones of sea and land larger and smaller, encircling one another; there were two of land and three of water, which he turned as with a lathe, each having its circumference equidistant every way from the centre, so that no man could get to the island, for ships and voyages were not as yet.

This thread was created for people who believe in Atlantis and are looking for ways to express themselves and their beliefs. I’m not asking them to prove anything. This is supposed to be a discussion about Atlantis. I’m just trying to keep the discussion going. If you are a debunker, please read Plato’s story and try to understand it first. Also,I don’t believe you should call me names. I’m not lying.

Either YOU haven’t read Plato’s story or you’re not capable of understanding what he said, because he NEVER made the claims you say he did.

What else would you call it because you’re definitely not telling the truth.

You try to keep the 'discussion' going by ignoring what people post, and happily continue repeating what you posted before.

If someone posts archaelogical FACTS, you ignore it. Why?

And we all have read Plato's story. But what many of us wonder about: have YOU?

Originally, way back when, he admitted having never read Plato. Now apparently he’s attempting to pidgeon-hole what Plato said into his own narrative.

Who knows. He may have read some of it since then but apparently he’s too invested in his interpretation to be honest about what Plato said.

I believed that is how Florida looked during the time of Atlantis.

So this is what Atlantis looked like:

Spruce Creek, Tampa.

Plato wrote that there was an island surrounded by canals. This looks like a pond surrounded by land. Thats not really the same is it ?

Sorry but you are making statements that are false and if you had actually read Plato you would know that. So, either you are being disingenuous about reading it or are being so about what it says.

The majority of people who believe in Atlantis have never read Plato. I use to query my students on that and 85% had never done so

He is a textbook example of confirmation bias.

I think he's just read websites about Atlantis; not the actual story.  I'm waiting for the Magic Crystals bit to show up.

I'm waiting for that too. I read Lovecraft many decades ago and have just started to re-read him - excellent stories.

As many on this site are aware of my 18 month sabbatical, searching for the lost city of Atlantis. I came across these maps. 17th and 18th century acclaimed European cartographers of the time show ATLANTIS located as present day North and South America

I think @Rojack is onto something.

People in the past were also looking for Atlantis and even made map on where they thought it might be. Of course the Atlantis' above aren't sunk and there is a remarkably thorough lack of evidence of a 'Greek style' country and city on those lands.
