Eldorado Posted October 31, 2020 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2020 (edited) Two men have been arrested in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly duping a doctor into buying an "Aladdin's lamp" that they promised would bring him wealth and health. As part of the con, they even pretended to conjure up spirits from the lamp, in line with the tale from The Arabian Nights, Indian media report. The men had reportedly wanted more than $200,000 for the lamp but settled for a down payment of $41,500. bmk1245 Posted October 31, 2020 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2020 Well, there's a sucker born every minute. Not to metion all this bs with lamps, but "$200,000 for the lamp but settled for a down payment of $41,500" is a red flag. And what kind of doctor, who have been dupped, is? Selling snake oil? In that case I would say, let the fittest survive... 1
Seti42 Posted October 31, 2020 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2020 The lamp at least looks the part. Pretty sad someone with a medical degree would fall for such a thing...But a science education doesn't guarantee that someone is immune to BS and/or belief.
+Nuclear Wessel Posted October 31, 2020 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2020 So they were demanding a pitiful sum of $200k for a lamp that could have been used to grant them a nearly endless supply of money, eh?
Mr Guitar Posted October 31, 2020 #7 Share Posted October 31, 2020 Just goes to show you that neither education nor duct tape can fix stupid. How an educated individual could even remotely believe in genies and magic lamps is beyond me. Seems that things like this happen a lot in India and Africa.....must be the water...? 1
