Princess Diana's brother accuses BBC

Eldorado

Recommended Posts

Princess Diana's brother has made new allegations about how the BBC gained his trust and access to his sister prior to her 1995 Panorama interview.

Notes Charles Spencer says he made at the time of a meeting he held with Martin Bashir suggest the Panorama reporter made a number of false and defamatory claims about senior royals.

The BBC has promised an inquiry if new evidence is presented.

The BBC says it has found the handwritten note from Princess Diana that it claimed clears Martin Bashir of wrongdoing in relation to his landmark 1995 interview with the royal.

The broadcaster had previously said it had lost the crucial piece of paper, which it used to explain away Bashir’s use of fake bank statements to gain an introduction to Diana.

An internal investigation at the time of the original broadcast concluded that Bashir did not coerce Diana into giving the interview and “we also have her word in writing for that”.

Until Friday the corporation had insisted it had lost the letter. However, after weeks of press coverage to mark the 25th anniversary of the interview, the BBC says that it has found the memo from Diana. It will provide the document to an independent inquiry that it is being set up to reinvestigate how Bashir obtained the interview.

Update:

Martin Bashir's Diana interview won't face criminal investigation, police say

BBC journalist Martin Bashir will not face a criminal investigation over documents related to his interview with Princess Diana, the Metropolitan Police says.

It had been alleged the journalist forged bank statements in order to secure the landmark Panorama interview with the Princess of Wales in 1995.

But in a statement, the Met said officers had sought legal advice from internal lawyers, independent counsel and the Crown Prosecution Service and determined it was "not appropriate" to launch a criminal probe.

BBC journalist lied and deceived Princess Diana to secure interview, bombshell report finds

An investigation into the 1995 Panorama interview with Princess Diana has found the reporter involved used deceitful behaviour to secure it.

The BBC opened a fresh inquiry into the interview more than 25 years after it first aired after Earl Spencer, Diana's brother, raised questions about methods used by Martin Bashir to get Diana to agree to the programme.

Earl Spencer said Bashir had faked bank statements which he showed to the earl in order to get access to the princess.

The bbc are pushing the idea that this all happened 25 yrs ago and is not so relevant today.

Somehow I don't think that will wash.

This could be the final straw that turns the corporation into a pay per view service.

Good, so now they'll stop pushing 'colonialism & slavery' down our throats then.

Here’s Prince William’s statement damming the BBC

“It brings indescribable sadness to know that the BBC’s failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final years with her.”

He said that the BBC “not only let my mother down, and my family down; they let the public down too”.

As somebody has stated on another thread...isn't forging bank statements a criminal offence? or are the police too busy arresting people for saying hurtful things on twitter & getting their police cars decorated for the next Gay pride march?

Here's Prince Williams statement. It's a very strong condemnation of the BBC at it's highest levels. Nothing will happen to any of them though, and of course Bashir has, as do bent coppers, taken a sickie to escape. Bashir, and all the Director-Generals from John Birt onwards should be in the tower, and let's not forget the Savile scandal.

Diana interview: Whistleblower wants apology from BBC bosses

The whistleblower who first warned the BBC about the faked documents at the heart of the Princess Diana interview controversy has said he wants an apology from bosses at the time.

Matt Wiessler said a letter sent on Thursday night was "too little, too late".

The graphic designer mocked up fake bank statements in 1995 at the request of Panorama interviewer Martin Bashir.

But he did not know what they would be used for until after the broadcast.

Following a highly critical inquiry into how the interview was secured, Mr Wiessler told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the BBC had only done the "absolute minimum" to acknowledge how badly he had been treated.

Prince Harry says heavy drinking masked pain of mum Diana's death

The Duke of Sussex has said he used to drink a week's worth of alcohol in a day to try to deal with the trauma of his mother's death.

Prince Harry was also willing to take drugs to "feel less like I was feeling" more than a decade after she died.

The duke was talking to US talk show host Oprah Winfrey in their new streaming series on mental health.

He also spoke of anxiety and panic attacks, his "biggest regret", and his experience of his mother's funeral.

What is this about? Is it relevant to the thread (and I agree the BBC has acted deplorably throughout with regard to the Diana interview)?

"BBC Journalist Tweeted “Hitler Was Right” Regarding Israel"

"Tala Halawa has a large influence and creates news content for the BBC, viewed by millions of people around the world.

Ms Halawa has come under scrutiny after a Tweet from 2014 had resurfaced where she stated “Israel is more Nazi than Hitler.”

Within the Tweet was the hashtag “HitlerWasRight” which has caused anger throughout the Jewish community as tensions in the region have recently escalated with Gaza firing missiles into Israel."

The BBC has defended Halawa by stating her Tweet was prior

This has fuelled calls to defund The BBC.

The BBC has paid damages to Earl Spencer’s former head of security over the faking of his bank statements used to obtain its interview with Princess Diana.

Alan Waller is understood to have received about £60,000, more than 25 years after Martin Bashir, the Panorama reporter, used the fake statements to gain Earl Spencer’s trust.
