This sounds an awful lot like the project Nikola Tesla was working on, funded by J.P. Morgan on Long Island in 1901. Free energy for the world, transported wireless through the atmosphere. Now it can become real.

Actually it can be used as a detector, to sense if an object enters a room.

So the news headline would be: "Cat caught stealing food from fridge by phone charger device."
